  In context: Announced in November 2019, the partnering of Floyd’s healthcare system with North Carolina-based Atrium Health is a big step closer after Friday’s public hearing by the Georgia Attorney General’s office at The Forum. Polk death pushes regional total to 667; another ‘probable’ death in Floyd (44th). Hospitals: 5 virus patients in Floyd, Redmond. Voccio updates on virus, ‘variants,’ vaccinations.

The region has now lost 667 residents to COVID since March 2020. Another 95 residents have been identified as “probable” victims. Dr. Gary Voccio says 70% of the cases in Georgia now are from the “U.K. variant” but adds current vaccines are effective against it.
