COVID a big part in the surge in Northwest Georgia deaths in 2020, up 15.2% vs. 2019. At least 378 virus deaths were recorded here last year. Previous annual increases: 2.5%, 7.8% and a decrease of 2.2%.

The latest mortality rates from the state show the real impact on Northwest Georgia from the pandemic in 2020. The region saw a 15.2% surge in deaths in 2020 vs. 2019, or up 555 from 3,638 as of Dec. 31, 2019, to 4,193 for January-December of last year. That’s more than the 90 additional deaths… Read more
