Second Avenue near the levee is now cleared after an emergency situation on the old footbridge. According to Sgt. Media release: Investigators have made two arrests for vandalism and theft that occurred Sunday night at the concession stand of the Pepperell High School football stadium. Approximately $300 in stolen candy and drinks has been recovered. THE LATEST From the state: Traffic crashes across Georgia during the July Fourth holiday travel period resulted in 26 traffic deaths.  This year, the holiday travel period was 102 hours long.  It began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. Statewide, Georgia State Troopers investigated 513 traffic crashes resulting in 307 injuries, and 17 fatalities. … Read more

DNR: Holiday saw three boating under the influence arrests in our area; 29 statewide. Boating accidents injured 11, killed two.

Three drownings and two boating fatalities were reported by the law enforcement division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources between July 4 and Sunday. The Calhoun office, which includes Northwest Georgia, reported three boating under the influence arrests. Statewide, there were 29 BUI arrests.
