There is a risk for scattered strong to severe storms across much of north and central Georgia on Friday as a fairly organized storm system moves across the region. The Storm Prediction Center has put much of our area in a marginal to slight risk for severe weather. — Courtney Taylor, Director, Gordon County Emergency Management
Primary storm threats/hazards:
  • Damaging winds potentially higher than 60 mph
  • Large hail, an inch or larger.
  • Few tornadoes possible
  • Periods of heavy rain that could lead to localized creek/stream flooding
  • Timing: From 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.

FORECAST

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 8am, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 2pm, then showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. High near 80. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 8pm. Low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 55.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 84.
