It was a year ago that an early morning fire wiped out the landmark Pizza Farm restaurant at 734 Knox Mountain Road in Rockmart. A suspected electrical fire swept through the building and low water pressure at the fire site hindered all-night efforts to contain the blaze.

Twelve months later, as the business itself marks 50 years, the Sanders family is preparing to open at a new location just across from Rockmart High School. The tentative return? “The weather has slowed things down so we are hoping for mid March,” says Robert Sanders. You can watch the progress in the collage of photos posted above.

Early on, special T-shirts were sold to raise money for idled workers. Around $20,000 was collected in an effort championed by nearby Cedarstream.

The family almost immediately announced plans to build at a new location, wary of the lessons from the water flow from Jan. 9-10, 2021. And in the corner of the massive corn field off Cartersville Highway (Ga. 113) and Marquette Road, groundbreaking was held in August.
