Groundbreaking set for Jan. 28 on $20 million South Meadows community in South Rome.

The South Rome Alliance, Laurel Street developers and Goldman Sachs (investors) will join community and area leaders in breaking ground on a $20 million, 80-unit South Meadows affordable residential development at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at 12 Pollack St. off South Broad in South Rome. This is the latest in a series of new housing options in the community.

Here’s what to expect (per previous reports):

  • 16, two-story buildings with options for one-, two- and three-bedroom units.
  • Rents varying from $250 for the one-bedroom options to around $1,000 for the three-bedroom homes.
  • The development will feature a fitness area, mail room, play ground and other amenities.
  • This would basically double the residences added since the alliance and Laurel Street united to build the 84 units in the Burrell, McCall and Etowah communities.
