 Ms. Sarah Louise Massingill, age 56, of Calhoun, GA, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at a hospital in Rome, GA.

Ms. Massingill was born in Gordon County, GA on September 16, 1965, daughter of Ms. Louise Dale Massingill Barnett and the late Joel Massingill.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Danny Massingill.  Ms. Massingill was a graduate of Armuchee High School.  She was employed by Red Roof Inn & Suites (formerly the Baymont Hotel) for many years as a front desk clerk.  Ms. Massingill was an animal lover, evident by her 5 cats and 2 dogs that she loved dearly.  She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother, Hazel Louise Dale Massingill Barnett, Rome; 2 brothers, Johnny Massingill (Pam), Calhoun, and Matt Massingill (Alma), Cartersville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with her wishes, Ms. Massingill will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church, 101 Carpenter Road, NE, Calhoun, GA  30701, with the Rev. Justin Everett and the Rev. Greg Barnett officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church.

Jeanette Wade Wheeling Tucker, age 77, of Rome passed away Sunday January 9, 2022.

Jeanette was born on May 15, 1944 in Cherokee County, Ala., to the late James C. Wheeling and Bertha Lucille Wade. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Justin Ray Haney, Sr.; brother: Woodrow Wheeling.

Survivors include her husband: Robert Tucker, Sr.; children: Robert Tucker, Jr., Daniel Tucker, Tony (Kimberly) Tucker, Jan (Murl) Cordle, and Lynn Smith; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; siblings: Hubert Wheeling, and Joyce (Ken) Harrelson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday January 14, 2022 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service hour on Friday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen: Robby Tucker, Tony Tucker, Brandon Carter, Ryan Tucker, Cody Tucker, Donny Sorrels; honorary pallbearer: Daniel Tucker.


Curtis Estil Hoover, 85, a native citizen of Jacksonville, Florida passed at Redmond Regional Medical Center on January 6th in Rome Georgia near his residence with his wife and only daughter in Aragon, Georgia, a place he called home for the past three years. Curtis was born February 16th 1936 to Curtis Estelle and Eulela Hoover.

Curtis attended Andrew Jackson High School and joined the army after completing his GED. During his eight year tenure in the military he found a passion for traveling, and made trips to Europe and throughout the United States. He was married to Juline Smith and had his only child, a daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Hoover. After military life, he remarried and he worked as a civil servant. He retired from the City of Jacksonville after 25 years.

Favorite pastimes of his were the New York Times crossword puzzles, comic strip books, photography, writing letters to his grandchildren, and playing the lottery. He loved oddities and had a loving spirit. Curtis was known as Granddaddy Hoo and stories of his dry humor at opportune times will be what is mostly missed about him among those who knew him and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jennie Simpson Hoover and daughter Sharon Hoover Tinnan (Donald Tinnan) of Aragon, Georgia, his grand children Candace (Clay) Foster, Curtis Williams, Cameron (Tori) Williams and Joshua (Brooke) Tinnan and six great grand children. He is preceeded in death by his parents Curtis and Eulela Hoover, his sister and brother in law Sonya (née Hoover) and Chuck Tippette, his niece and nephew, Donna Clark (née Tippette) and Chuckie Tippette.

Memorial service to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions made in Curtis Hoover’s memory toward any local animal rescue foundation or East Paulding High School ROTC in Dallas, Georgia.

Ms. Theresa Carol Ely Lindsey, age 66, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away Sunday evening, January 9, 2022, at her residence.

Ms. Lindsey was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 14, 1955, daughter of the former Betty Louise Wilson and the late Jimmy Lee Ely.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, David Ely.  Prior to her retirement, Ms. Lindsey was employed with Sara Lee Corporation here in Rome.  She was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include her son, Nicky Lindsey, Rockmart; 2 grandchildren, Leeah Wynn and Chase Lindsey; her mother, Betty Ely, Rome; her sister, Lisa Diane Tucker, Rome; 2 brothers, Robin Ely (Stacey), Silver Creek, and Jamie Ely, Silver Creek; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.  Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Forney, AL.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 12 noon until the service hour.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble  on Thursday at 1:30pm and include:  Brad, Quentin, Nolan, and Ryan Ely.
