Missing Floyd County Jail inmate ‘back in custody.’ Escape led to lockdowns at some Rome, Floyd County schools.

3:30 p.m. Floyd County Sheriff’s Office says escaped inmate in custody.

Bowman, 56, had been in jail since Sept. 21. Jail records show his charges then and now:

Warrant: Probation warrant 02CR21914JR2 issued by Floyd County, GA (42-8-38 – PROBATION VIOLATION (WHEN PROBATION TERMS ARE ALTERED) – FELONY); Arrest Date 09/17/2021; Bond – No Bond; Set By Judge Lorie Hughes, Floyd Magistrate Court;

EARLIER WEDNESDAY
From the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office:
On the morning of January 12, 2022 an inmate at the Floyd County Jail, Charles Richard Bowman, left his detail at the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. Mr Bowman is facing drug- related charges and a probation violation. If you see Mr Bowman, please do not approach, contact 911 immediately.
A felony escape warrant has been issued for Mr Bowman and all local agencies are working together to locate him.

From Floyd County Schools: Lockdowns have been lifted. Dismissal is normal.

From Rome City Schools
Rome City Schools received notice that an inmate has escaped the Floyd County Jail. As a precaution, Rome High School, Rome Middle School, Phoenix Learning Center and Main Elementary are on lockdown until more information becomes available via local law enforcement officials.
Additional updates will be made available through social media pages and direct messaging services. At this time, Rome City Schools will maintain a regular school schedule and dismissal times.
Model High, Middle and Johnson elementary also are on “soft” lockdown per Lenora Doss with Floyd County Schools. The alert comes from school resource officers, she says.
