GBI asked to investigate death of a Floyd County Jail inmate, 55, who was found ‘unresponsive’ late Friday.

From the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office:
On Jan. 7, 2022, shortly after 11 p.m., jail staff discovered David Lee Daniel, 55, unresponsive in his cell. Jail staff initiated lifesaving efforts and he was transported to a local hospital. Ultimately, jail staff and hospital personnel were unsuccessful in their lifesaving efforts and Mr Daniel was declared deceased.
As standard procedure, the GBI has been contacted to conduct an investigation. Mr Daniel will have an autopsy conducted at the GBI Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is fully cooperating with the GBI’s investigation.

Records show Daniel, of Summerville, was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Dec. 28 on a theft charge. He was transferred from the Chattooga County Jail.
