COMMUNITY SPORTS
TRED Rome Floyd invites the public to participate in the first Assail the Trail 5K trail run and 1.2 mile walk on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the GE Trails at Garrard Park, 1935 Redmond Circle, Rome. The GE Trails were dedicated on February 18, 2017 and Assail the Trail marks the 5th birthday of the trail system.
The event promises to be unique including a birthday celebration for the trails after the run and walk. Age group awards will be given to the top finishers in the 5K run but the walk will not be timed. The 5K will begin at 9am and the 1.2 mile walk will begin at 9:15am. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 8:30 a.m. There will be no race day registration.
All proceeds go toward the continued expansion and maintenance of the GE Trails. The trails are maintained by a core group of dedicated volunteers with help from the City of
Rome Public Works Department.
“I am very excited about showcasing the beautiful GE Trails and bringing a trail race back to Rome,” said TRED Executive Director Julie Smith. “Trail runs are typically a little quirky and Assail the Trail will be no exception. In a year when indoor events have been curtailed, being able to be in community outside will be great.”
Registration is open and can be found at: https://runsignup.com/Race/GA/Rome/AssailtheTrail. For more information please contact Julie Smith at 706 844 8509 or tredromefloyd@gmail.com
