Obituaries: Pastor Perry Davis Jr., Ms. Wilma “Jean” Mobbs Gross, Mrs. Sarah Beatrice “Bea” Reeves Purdy.

Mrs. Sarah Beatrice “Bea” Reeves Purdy, age 91, of Rome, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, January 4, 2022, at the Renaissance Marquis.

Mrs. Purdy was born in Kingston, GA on February 1, 1930, daughter of the late Hershal Reeves and the late Mollie Crawford Reeves.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Marshall Purdy, by 2 sons, Durand Phalen Riggins and Keelean Marshall Purdy, and by 4 brothers, Harold, Doyal, Ed, and Gene Reeves.

Mrs. Purdy graduated from Johnson High School where she loved to play basketball.  As a teenager, she loved sports cars and was known to race down Broad Street in a 1949 Ford.  She worked for a while with Southern Bell and at Town & Country Antiques, but her main focus was on her family.  She served as a “Gray Lady” at Floyd Medical Center and was an excellent cook and seamstress.  Mrs. Purdy was of the Christian faith and knew the importance of Bible study and prayer.

Survivors include her 3 children, Monesia Burkhalter (Steve), Silver Creek, Marquita Herndon (Dale), Rome, and Labraun Purdy, Silver Creek; a brother, Mitchum Reeves (Linda), Silver Creek; 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Ricky Studdard officiating.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 1pm until the service hour.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at 2:30pm and include:  Brandon Jenkins, Tony Nelson, Bill Farmer, Alan Binkley, Jeff Jenkins, and Phalen Riggins.

 

 


 

Ms. Wilma “Jean” Mobbs Gross, age 85, of Armuchee, GA, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at a local hospital.

Ms. Gross was born in Cherokee County, AL, on November 25, 1936, daughter of the late Theodore “Bud” Mobbs and the late Relma Scottie Cothran Mobbs.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred D. Gross, and by 8 siblings, Theodore, Richard, Carlton, Bobby, Helen, Nellie Jo, Essie and Linda.  Ms. Gross was a seamstress in the retail industry for many years.  She then transitioned to Rome Casket Company where she designed, cut and installed interior linings in caskets.  Ms. Gross was a member of Armuchee Baptist Church.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Sandy Brown (Jim), and Penny Mitchell (Tommy); 4 grandchildren, Mike Brown (Lisa), Maren Pasley (Ty Bowen), Josh Mitchell and Jamie Dutton (Austin); 2 great-granddaughters, Sydney Brown and Ayla Pasley; brother, Gary Mobbs (Vivian); sister-in-law, Josie B. Mobbs; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 7, 2022, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with her nephew, Judson Mobbs, officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11am until 12:45pm on Friday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.

Pallbearers are to assemble by 12:30 pm  and include:  Mike Brown, Thom Mobbs, Richard Baird, Tyler Bowen, Austin Dutton and Jameson Mobbs.


Pastor Perry Davis Jr. (Retired Army), age 68, of Douglasville (formerly of Rockmart) transitioned January 4, 2022. Complete arrangements are forthcoming.
