Mr. Carl William Acrey, age 48, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at a local hospital.

Mr. Acrey was born in Rome, Georgia on August 25, 1973, son of the late Carmen Gail Hann Colburn and the late David Acrey.  He was also preceded in death by a grandmother, Gertrude Cole, and by two uncles, Donald Hann and Gary Hann.  William had a strong faith in God, was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church and was attending Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church.  He worked for several years in construction.  William was a huge sports fan, especially football.

Survivors include two sons, Carl Acrey (Katlynn) and Preston Acrey; a daughter, Hannah Acrey; a stepdaughter, Carmen Diane Easterwood; three brothers, David Hann, Dennis Hann, and Gary Hann; five aunts & uncles, Steve Hann, David Hann, Johnny Hann, Tammy Thomas, and Angela Hann; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Johnny Wayne Hann and the Rev. Rob Miller officiating.  Interment will follow in Lindale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 1pm until 2:45pm.


Mr. Harry Lee, age 72 of Rome, Georgia, passed away on December 28, 2021.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 12:00 noon Floyd Memory Gardens 895 Cartersville Hwy SE, Rome, Georgia.

In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, masks are required at the grave site.

Mr. David Steve Young, known to his wife as Baby, to his friends as Steve, and to his family as Daddy or PawPaw, passed away in Rome, GA on December 28, 2021, at the age of 64.

Steve was born in Chattooga County, GA on November 7, 1957, son of the late John B. Griffin Young and the late Mattie Lou Wilkie Young.  He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Debra Young; sons, Adam Young (Courtney), and Jason Young (Alicia); grandchildren, Skyler Young (Dustin Brown), Dylan Young (Kaitlin), and Destiny Young (North Clark); great grandchildren, Aiden Brown, Brantley Young, and Weston Young.

Steve was preceded by his father John (Buck) Young, mother, Mattie L. Young, brothers, Robert “Bobby” Young and Ronald Young, and sister Dorthy “Dot” Parker.

Steve excelled at being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Steve shared a love of woodworking with his brother Dale.  He also had a passion for music.  Steve and his cousins Jim and John Riley started their own band at the age of 13.

There was nothing Steve loved more than his family.  He was always ready to share his wisdom and advice with whoever needed it.  Steve also had a unique sense of humor, he made everyone around him laugh.  Steve’s smile was infectious, and he always brought joy to those he spent time with.  He was a strong man with a selfless heart.  He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2:00pm in the Chapel at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Clifford Free officiating.  Interment will follow in Silver Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Sunday from 12:00pm until 2:00pm.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are requested at both the visitation and funeral service.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble  on Sunday at 1:45pm and include:  Jim Riley, John Riley, Michael Young, Dustin Brown, Timmy Jones and Adam Young.


Mr. Carl Gibson, age 85, of Rome transitioned December 28, 2021. Service for Mr. Gibson will be Monday, January 3, 2022 at 1 pm at Thankful Baptist Church (Rome). Mr. Gibson will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until the funeral hour.
