Services set for Rome man who died in a Monday evening accident on Ga. 101 near Dean Road in Polk County.


A Rome man has died following an accident Monday evening on Ga. 101 near Dean Road in Polk County, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Killed was the lone driver, Jordan Dwight Conaway, 40, of Rome. The accident occurred at 7:19 p.m. and shut down the highway for several hours based on earlier police reports.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

The 2000 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Conaway was traveling south on Ga. 101. The driver failed to maintain his lane and traveled onto the right shoulder. The vehicle began to rotate counter-clockwise, striking a concrete culvert with its passenger side. After the impact, the Crown Victoria overturned multiple times.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and became trapped underneath it, as it came to a final uncontrolled rest.

Polk County Coroner Norman Smith said Conaway was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

This was the second fatal accident on Ga. 101 in three days. A Silver Creek man died Saturday in a collision near the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road on the Floyd County side of the highway.


Mr. Jordan Dwight Conaway, age 40, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, due to a motor vehicle accident.

Jordan was born in Rome, GA on March 5, 1981. Jordan graduated from Armuchee High School, and from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Florida. Jordan was a member of North Rome Church of God.

Survivors include his seven-year-old daughter, Bella Rose Grace Conaway; Bella’s mother, Ashley Conaway; his mother & father, Paula Warren Conaway and Ronnie E. Conaway; sister, Kim Bishop; brother, Matt Conaway; grandmother, Nadine Headrick.

Jordan was a very kind and loving father, and he had a giving and humble heart. Jordan will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 5:00 pm until 7:00pm with social distancing guidelines being followed.
