Mr. Michael Danny Mulkey Sr., age 71, of Silver Creek, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Mulkey was born in Rome, Georgia on December 16, 1949, son of the late Felton Fillmore Mulkey and the late Joan Ella Hicks Mulkey.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Laura Ruth Mathis.  Mr. Mulkey was a graduate of Model High School and then attended Coosa Valley Technical College where he received his certificate for steamfitter/pipe welder.  He was a member of the Local #766 in Rome and worked for Lockheed Martin in Marietta for 25 years prior to retirement.

Mr. Mulkey was very active in the Lindale Community where he was a community coach for the Pepperell High School Football team and was active in the Dragon Club for many years under the leadership of Coach Lynn Hunnicut.  He was a member of North Rome Church of God, Carpenters for Christ, and served on a Mission team to Barbados with Spring Creek Baptist Church.  Mr. Mulkey enjoyed softball, golf, boating, camping, NASCAR, drag racing, UGA and Atlanta Falcons football, and was a member of the Traveling Roadshow Softball Team for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Walls Mulkey; a son, Michael Dany Mulkey, Jr. (Robin); a daughter, Kimberly Diane Mulkey Carden; five grandchildren, Michael Daniel Mulkey (Emily), Elizabeth Taylor Mulkey, Sarah Faith Mulkey, Ridge Scott Carden, and Lauren Ella Carden; a great grandson, Michael Jacob Mulkey; two sisters, Peggy Ann Lemming (Dennis), and Rebecca Lynn Pearson; two brothers, Chris Mulkey, and Dusty Mulkey (Marcia); nieces, Mitzi Lemming Bailey, Melody Lemming Cantrell, Buffy Mathis Davis, Laurabeth Mathis, Crissy Roberson Hatcher, Chelsea Mitchell, Hannah Jahn Mulkey, and Jade Mulkey; nephews, Jeremy Mathis, Michael Pearson, John Mulkey, Jac Mulkey, and Mac Mulkey.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Bishop Jerry Chitwood, the Rev. Bert Brooks, Dr. Ralph Jenkins, and Evangelist David Ford officiating, and his grandson, Daniel Mulkey providing the music.  Interment will follow in Rome Midway Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Jacobs officiating.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Wednesday from 5 until 7pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Thursday at 2:30pm and include: David Mathis, Michael Pearson, Corey Rhodes, Jeff Hunnicut, Don Rush, Clay Graham, Wayne Colburn, and Bill Schirmacher.  Other members of the PHS Football teams that Mike coached will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Edith Doris Phillips Swint, 98, of Rome, Georgia, died Thursday, November 25, 2021, at her residence. A native of Rome, Georgia, she was born on July 11, 1923, the oldest daughter of the late Mary McCullough Phillips and Homer Bethel Phillips.

Mrs. Swint received her education at Jonesboro High School and Marsh Business College, Atlanta, Georgia. She was married to the late Edgar Jewell Swint, Jr., March 7, 1941. They were married for 64 years. Edith was a natural enthusiast and loved to garden and tend to her flowers. She collected rocks, Native American artifacts from her country garden, and marbles. Edith also enjoyed oil painting. She worked with her hands sewing, crocheting, and cooking.

Mrs. Swint was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church and volunteered in the nursery and taught Sunday School. She was active in the United Methodist Women also serving as a past president. Edith was a long-time member of the Jesse Dempsey Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her sister Martha Belle Dixon, of Irwinton, Georgia, brothers Denman Phillips of McDonough, Georgia, and Lemuel Phillips, of Jonesboro, Georgia and son Robert Lee Swint, Sr. of Rome, Georgia.

Mrs. Swint is survived by her daughters Sandra Swint Yeargan and Carol Swint Edwards and her husband Scott Albert Edwards of Rome, Georgia. Grandchildren Edith Yeargan Tomasetti, and her husband Lou of Atlanta, Georgia, Ed Yeargan III and his wife Stephanie of Decatur, Georgia, Robert Swint, Jr, and Mary Beth Swint of Jacksonville, Florida. Great Grandchildren A.J. and Rebecca Tomasetti of Atlanta, Georgia and Leo Yeargan of Decatur, Georgia. Also surviving include numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Second Avenue United Methodist Church Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 11:00am-12:00pm. Funeral service Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 1:00pm followed by graveside services at Eastview Cemetery, Rome, Georgia with the Rev. Dr. Millie Kim officiating, Daniel’s Funeral Home conducting the services.

Pallbearers Ed Yeargan III, Lou Tomasetti, A.J. Tomasetti, Scott Edwards, Greg Gaston, and Randy Embree. The family requests masks for all services.

Mrs. Laura Jean Morris, age 85, of Cedartown, GA, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Morris was born on December 15, 1935, in Coshocton, OH, daughter of the late Clifford B. Wilson and the late Alta Mae Keidigh Wilson.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey D. Mullen, by 2 sisters, Evelyn Bell and Rosella Martin, and by 3 brothers, Clifford Wilson, Warren Wilson and Mack Wilson.  Mrs. Morris was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School and received her Associate degree from Georgia Highlands College.  She loved to fish, travel and spend time with her family, especially playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She loved God and her church, Rome First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband, David E. Morris, Cedartown, to whom she was married on May 28, 1982; 4 children, James E. Mullen (Donna), Cedartown, Jerry L. Mullen (Connie), Cedartown, Jana L. Collins (Morris T., Jr.), Cedartown, and Joleah M. White (Eddie), Marietta; her brother, Jack Wilson, Kennesaw; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Ronny Hilton and the Rev. Wayne Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Pallbearers include Jeremy J. Mullen, Joshua L. Mullen, D. Ethan Mullen, Christopher R. Collins, Kyle Morris and Carson Tanner.


Mr. Timmy Burge, age 57, of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on November 28, 2021.

 Mac Andrew Adkins, 4 month old son of Sydney & Stephen Adkins, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

Mac was born in Rome, Georgia on July 23, 2021, son of Sydney Bush Adkins and Stephen Andrew Adkins.

Mac is survived by his parents; a brother, Asher Adkins; grandparents, Karen Bush, Tony Bush, Jenny Nehring, and Bryan & Cherie Adkins; aunts & uncles, Summer Bush, Patty Villanti, Ashley Adkins, Joshua Adkins, and Michael Adkins and their families.

The family will receive friends at West Rome Baptist Church on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 11am until 1pm, with the service following.  Entombment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.  The family requests that those attending the visitation and service please wear bright colors instead of black.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a college fund to be established for Asher Adkins at Synovus Bank.

Mrs. Mary Strickland Chupp, age 84, of Rome passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 in a local health care facility.
Mrs. Chupp was born September 19, 1937, in Roswell, GA. the daughter of the late Henry Strickland and Voncile Whitley Strickland. She was a member of Creek Path Baptist Church in Guntersville, Alabama. Mrs. Chupp was retired from LaQuinta Inns as a hotel manager.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Don Chupp Sr. Sons David (Shirley) Chupp and Donny (Joy) Chupp. Grandchildren, Jeffrey Chupp, Andrew Chupp, Meriel Chupp, Mary Elizabeth Johns and Hannah Addis, Great grandchildren, Trey, Kate, Samuel, Benjamin, Laura, Eleanor, Hudson, Asher and Clementine.
A celebration of Mrs. Chupp’s life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Rick Douglas and Rev. Brandon Johns officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Mrs. Frances Louise Stafford Houser, age 78, of Rome passed away Thursday November 25, 2021 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Houser was born November 12, 1943, in Rome, a daughter of the late Clabe Hill Stafford, and Janie Tankersley Stafford. She was retired from the Calhoun Police Department. Mrs. Houser was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Wooten, and a daughter, Connie Wooten.
Survivors include a son, Allen Houser, daughters, Tammie Bishop, Rhonda (Ted) Crider, brothers, James Stafford, Charlie Stafford, Wayne Stafford, sisters, Jewell Garrard, Lyndell Kelly, Shirley Stafford, grandchildren, Haley Bishop, Jordan Crider, Matthew Crider, Hannah Crider, Consance Turner, Brett Turner, great grandchildren, Angeline Turner, Juana Turner, Jasmine Turner, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday December 1, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. Internment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour on Wednesday.
