Two-vehicle accident on Ga. 101 at Pleasant Valley kills 50-year-old Silver Creek man, injures two others Saturday afternoon.

A Silver Creek man has died following a two-vehicle collision on Ga. 101 and Pleasant Valley Road SE.

Scotty Anthony Garner, who turned 50 in September, died from injuries sustained in the crash, says Assistant County Coroner Brent Whatley.

Floyd County Police Officer Benji Newport says the accident was called in around 12:50 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told Newport Garner was southbound on 101 and turned left into the path of a northbound vehicle with two passengers. Garner, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected, Newport says. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two occupants of the other vehicle were taken to an area hospital and underwent surgery later Saturday, he says.

Garner is the 23rd person to die on Rome/Floyd County roads this year and also is among the 20 people to die on Georgia highways during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
