Jobs: Record-low unemployment rates recorded again in October for Floyd, Bartow counties. Plus: Regional report.

Media release: Rome recorded an unchanged all-time low unemployment rate of 2.4 percent. A year ago, the rate was 4.6 percent.

“We are continuing to see all-time low unemployment rates across the state along with job growth in all of our statistical areas,” said Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “The focus now is getting more Georgians into the workforce to fill these critical positions, particularly as we gear up for a strong holiday employment season.”

Rome/Floyd County:

  • The labor force increased in Rome by 275 and ended the month with 43,893. That number is up 253 when compared to October of 2020.
  • Rome finished the month with 42,842 employed residents.  That number increased by 291 over the month and is up by 1,208 when compared to the same time a year ago.
  • Rome ended October with 41,500 jobs. That number increased by 600 from September to October and increased by 1,200 when compared to this time last year.
  • The number of unemployment claims went down by 28 percent in Rome in October. When compared to last October, claims were down by about 88 percent.
  • Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 519 active job postings in Rome for October.

Cartersville/Bartow County:

  • Bartow County tied an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.2 percent in October. A year ago, the rate was 4.7 percent.
  • The labor force increased in October by 313 to 51,029. That number is up 1,267 over-the-year.
  • Bartow County ended October with 49,931 employed residents.  The number increased by 345 in October and was up 2,498 as compared to last year.
  • Initial claims for unemployment decreased by 20 percent in October. When compared to last October, claims were down about 92 percent.
  • Employ Georgia showed 788 active job postings in Bartow County for October.

Regional report: Includes Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Walker and Whitfield counties.

  • The October preliminary unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 2.1 percent; the rate was 4.2 percent one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 1,290 for the month and up 6,591 for the year, to 423,741.
  • The number of employed was up 1,488 for the month and up 15,319 for the year, to 414,845.
  • Initial claims were down 640 (-29%) and down 12,709  to 1,539.
  • There were 5,300 jobs posted on Employ Georgia.
