Kathleen Money Barnes passed away peacefully at Redmond Regional Medical Center on Friday, November 12, 2021, surrounded by her family.  She was born December 6, 1929, in Cherokee County, AL.  Kathleen was the daughter of the late Theodore and Allie Mae Money and was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Alvin Barnes, and her siblings, Faye Money, Joe Connor Money and Ruby Jewel Shell.

Kathleen met her husband, Alvin, in Cherokee County, AL, and was married to him on April 22, 1947.  Shortly after, she and her husband moved to Rome, GA, where they raised their family.  She was a lifelong Baptist and had been an active member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church since the 1950s, participating in the Ray Club, Senior Adult Choir and Bernice Swann Sunday School Class. She was a retired bus driver from the Floyd County School System and is fondly remembered as ‘the Tupperware lady’ due to her service selling Tupperware for over 40 years.

She is survived by her siblings, Jack Money of Rome, GA, Dean Abston of Rome, GA, and Flora Sills of Petal, MS; three children, Jimmy (Jeanette) Barnes of Rome, GA, Tommy (Vicki) Barnes of White, GA, and Michael (Jerre) Barnes of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Kristen) Barnes of Marietta, GA, Melanie (Eli) Freeman of Tinker Air Force Base, OK, Elizabeth Barnes of Rome, GA, Christina (Lucas) Schultz of Rome, GA, Hannah (Jared) Williams of Moreland, GA, Stephanie Barnes of Birmingham, AL, Braden Barnes of Smyrna, GA and Katie-Anne Barnes of Marietta, GA;  four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Schultz of Rome, GA, Isabelle Schultz of Rome, GA, Tucker Williams of Moreland, GA, and Reed Barnes of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 15, 2021, from 10:00 am until the service time at Garden Lakes Baptist Church in Rome, GA.  Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm at Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmie Gentry officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.  Her pallbearers will be Tim Shell, Greg Slater, Bob Sills, Beto Castro, Daniel Barnes and Braden Barnes.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Garden Lakes Baptist Church of Rome, GA.

Ms. Vickie Lynn Hodges, age 58, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at a local hospital.

Vickie was born in Clanton, Alabama on May 15, 1963, the daughter of the late John B. Hodges, Sr. and the late Joan Lillian Johnson Hodges.  She graduated from Shorter College with a Bachelor of Science degree.  She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.  She loved Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves.

She is survived by her brothers, Jon Ledford (Alicia), John Hodges, Jr., Richard Hodges and Mike Ledford; five nieces and three nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 2:30 pm in Rome Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.

Ava Coraline Self, infant daughter of Meagan Greer and Dakota Franks, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.

She is also survived by her sisters, Nataleigh Bernasconi, Chloe Greer and Anna Greer; her grandparents, Tiffany Massey, Larry and Casey Self, and Melanie and Melvin Jancavek; her aunts, Brandi (Nikki) Dixon, Samantha (Kyle) McGee, Jordan Hamilton, Johnna (Kevin) Hamilton, and Deanna Self; her great aunts, Melissa (Joe) Spikes, Wendy Carlisle, Whitney Forsyth, and Misty (Erin) Self; her uncles, Dayne (Megan) Elrod, and Will Lehr; her great uncles, Trevor Britt and Dustin (Juanita) Forsyth; her great grandparents, Lena and Jim Crooker, and Robbie and John Hartley; her cousins, Aiden Dixon, Oliver Burton, Jr., and Emerie McGee.  She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Barbara “Bobbie” and Ronald “Ronnie” Britt, and Larry Self, Sr.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Lambert officiating.

Mrs. Helen Louise Powell Garrett, age 96, of Rome, GA, passed away of Thursday, November 11, 2021, at a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Garrett was born in Tallapoosa, GA on May 20, 1925, daughter of the late Walter Powell and the late Lula Matthews Powell. She was a cosmetologist technician at King & Queen Style Salon, retiring after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Percy Wallace Garrett, 3 sisters, Gladys Williams, Lillian Gore, and Velma Brannon, by 3 brothers, W.D. Powell, Howard Powell, and Buddy Powell, and by a son-in-law, Rev. Harry Carter.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Garrett Carter, Cedar Bluff, AL, and Diane Garrett Collins (Rick), Rome; 5 grandchildren, Katrina Johnson (Dusty), Paige Wright (Rev. Tim), Jeffrey Carter, Cynthia Lockwood (Jay), and Garrett Collins; 8 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 15, 2021, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Rev. Tim Wright and Dr. Mark Cosby officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 1pm-1:45pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence of a daughter, Diane Collins, 39 Crosscreek Drive, Rome, GA 30165
