One of the last big projects of 2021 in Floyd County continues to edge closer to opening. On Thursday, more of the grounds work surrounding the Fairfield Inn & Suites adjoining the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College was continuing. Crews were using cranes to left trees with large root balls into place while others were preparing for smaller plantings.

Inside, work likewise was continuing to get the lobby, restaurant and 80 rooms ready for opening,  most likely early next month. Hiring continues as well. The project is valued at $12 million and caps a huge year with the final anchors opening at East Bend, the completition of the new animal science building on Berry’s campus and other updates.

You can chart the hotel’s progress on the new Facebook page.

Also due, on Dec. 8: Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville.

Ulta Beauty at Riverbend Center due today: Barring any issues, the new beauty center covering more than 9,000 square feet is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. at Riverbend Center off Turner McCall. The store took over the spot vacated by longtime tenant Pier One. For hours and more, please click Ulta.

Maximum One Community Realty on the move. The company has been in Rome for more than 3 years and has outgrown the current location at 9 W. Fifth Ave. A new location is pending with triple the size and additional parking. The business needs room for community events as well as continuing education classes. Says Marcie Evans, Broker/co-owner:  “We have been looking for the perfect place for more than a year and a half, and our patience has paid off.”

The Gordon Floyd Joint Development Authority is scheduled to meet next Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. in the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce boardroom at 300 S. Wall St.
