Off to a 5-2 start this season and a key fight at home Friday night vs. Gordon Lee, the Armuchee Indians will have to fight to focus. The team also is thinking about Head Coach Jeremy Green who has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
Named head coach in February 2018 after serving as defensive coordinator at Cass, Green has Armuchee moving in the right direction. The team has battled COVID and other issues the past two years and still kept a focus on competitive football. Now the students, coaches and community are coping with another life lesson.
Green’s wife, Jessica, made the family announcement earlier this week in a Facebook post (below). She wrote:
“Jeremy hasn’t been feeling well for a while and on Thursday we got a call that nobody ever wants to get. He has throat cancer. We have an appointment Thursday to see the oncology doctor and make a treatment plan.”
The family has been flooded with notes and gestures of support from the community. Some 229 comments accompany Jessica’s post and it has been shared another 30 times.
As for the coach, his social media posts have been focused on the Armuchee student/athletes doing well in cross country as well as a superior rating for the AHS band.
This Friday, the game theme vs. Gordon Lee will be green. Again from Facebook:
