Mr. Millard Pitts, age 89, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at a local nursing facility.

Mr. Pitts was born in Pike County, GA on November 30, 1931, son of the late Howard Beachum Pitts, Sr., and the late Iva Beatrice Buchanan Pitts.  He attended Spalding County High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.  Prior to his retirement, he was an employee of Sonat Gas Company.  Mr. Pitts was a member of the Lindale Lodge #455 F. & A. M, was a Shiner, and was of the Baptist faith.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James Douglas (Jim) Pitts.

Survivors include his wife, Mellie Merline Beam Pitts, Silver Creek; 2 sons, Bob Pitts, Lindale, and John Pitts, Silver Creek; a daughter, Janna Pitts, Rome; his grandchildren, Haley Murry, Marquita Phillips, Christa Laquana and Kory Pitts; a great grandchild, Lorelai Laquana.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  The Rev. Keith Howell will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard providing full military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 12:30pm until time for the service.

Pallbearers serving are asked to assemble at 1:30pm on Tuesday and include:  Kory Pitts, Dalton Smith, Guss Edwards, Drew Murry, John Hendrix, and Todd Wheeler.

Ken Taylor went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  Ken was born on November 19, 1960, in Miami, FL.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Jean Nash, by a sister, Lanny McCready, of West Palm, FL, and by two brothers, David Taylor and Donnie Taylor, of Armuchee, GA.

He is survived by the love of his life, Elaine; two beloved daughters, Nichole Anderson (T. J.) and Erika Simmons (Keith); one son, Danny Tucker (Carol); a sister, Jan Poulas (Jim); a brother, Gerald Nash, Jr; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He attended Cornerstone Church of Rome.  He served others with his whole heart, whether it be cutting grass, loading firewood or just blessing others in need.  He felt most free when riding his motorcycle or playing around with his most beloved dog, Lizzie.  He had many friends, took care of a few of them, but always checked in on them.  He wouldn’t let you know it, but he loved kids with his whole heart and would often be found giving them candy behind our backs.

He cherished his “three girls” and always made sure we were taken care of.  He will be forever missed by his family and friends.  Until we meet again, Daddy, micro-manage us from above.  We Love You!

Walter Dale Hamby died Sept. 14, 2021. He was born Feb. 23, 1945. Services to be announced by Henderson & Sons Funeral Home – Oaknoll Chapel.

Mrs. Geraldine Helen Tillery Wood, age 82, of Rome, GA, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 15, 2021, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Wood was born in Cedartown, GA on March 4, 1939, daughter of the late Elwood Tillery and the late Nellie Mae Lanning Puckett.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Merrell Wood, by her son, Lawrence Merrell Wood, and by a brother, Larry Tillery.  Prior to her retirement, she was Head Dietician at Floyd Medical Center for several years.  Mrs. Wood loved bingo and her dogs.  She attended Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Helen Wood Tillery, Temple, GA, Marjorie Wood Tapp, Rome, and Sharon Wood Tillery, Rome; a sister, Syble Martin (Jerry), Rome; 4 grandchildren, Tiffany Rittenhouse (Andrew), Olivia Griffin (Jessica), Billy Wood, and Megan Tillery; 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at 2pm at the graveside in Rome Memorial Park.  The Rev. Trey Stephens will officiate.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.

Erma Braden, age 96, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. Erma was born July 21, 1925 to Annie Holmes and William Holmes.

Erma is survived by her daughters; Sherry Teeter (Steve), Lori Waters (Ray), Lauri Penton (Kelly), and Amy Clark (Jeff). Ms. Braden is also survived by eight Grandchildren, Twelve Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-grandchild.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband James Braden; her mother Annie Holmes and her father William Holmes. Her sisters; Edna Borden, Lucille Calabrese, and Jewel Toler. Her brothers; Gary Holmes and Dewey Holmes. Ms. Braden is also preceded in death by two Great-Grandchildren.

A visitation for Erma will be held Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Daniel’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM. A burial will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers include: Lance Penton, Braden Clark, Mason Waters, Bryce Waters, Brinton Waters, and Matt Smith.

Margaret Katherine Brock Morrison of the Coosa community passed away Thursday September 16, 2021.
She was born on July 9, 1931 to the late Charlie Tartlon Brock, Sr. and Lizzie Bell Brewer Brock. She was married to John Albert Morrison on December 19, 1949 who preceded her in death on December 28, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Albert Morrison, September 1953, her parents and brothers, Charlie Tartlon Brock, Jr., Ike Brock, Harper Brock, and sister Frances Brock Quinn and her Father and Mother in law, Arthur and Odessa (Dessie) Morrison.
She graduated from Coosa High School in 1949. She is the oldest original member of Lakeview Baptist Church where she taught preschool Sunday School for over 50 years and was a member of the adult choir. She loved her family and her church family but most especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She had five generations.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law: Sandie and Windell McLendon of Coosa, her son and daughter in law, Mike and Rebecca Morrison of Coosa. 2 granddaughters, Abbi Snipes, April (Dwayne) Wyatt all of Rome, 1 grandson, Mikie Morrison of Coosa, who was her pride and joy. 4 great grandchildren, Jamison Dye, Makensi Nicholson, Kobe and Hannah McLendon all of Rome, 3 great great grandsons, Jayden, Jasper, Julian Gregory of Bartow County, GA., 3 step grandsons, Curtis (Jessi) McLendon of Adairsville GA., Tony McLendon of Hattiesburg MS., Stacy (Melissa) McLendon of Brandon MS. 5 Step grandchildren all of MS. 2 sisters, Joan Winkles of Westland, Michigan, Ann Tucker of Rome, a special cousin Tootsie (Vernon) Early of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday September 18, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Willis and Rev. Steve Glosson officiating. Interment will be in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM Until 8:00 PM on Friday September 17, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.
Pallbearers will be Kobe McLendon, Sammy Shetter, Bill Callan, Craig Morrison, Joe Hayes, and Randy Durham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Early, Garrett Hayes and Deacons of Lakeview Baptist Church.
