Rosemarie Remington, age 91, of Rome, GA passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 13, 2021. She was born in Bradford, PA on June 12, 1930, daughter of the late Josephine Piersimoni and the late Angelo Piersimoni. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L Remington of Red House, New York. She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard A Remington and a brother Joseph Piersimoni.

Rose graduated from Bradford High School in 1948. She worked 22 years as a bookkeeper for St. Mary’s School. She was a pink lady for Floyd Medical Center for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served the church and community. She had a giving heart and shared her love with many.

Rosemarie is survived by her children, which include: Michael and Nancy Remington, Larry and Barbara Remington, Susan and Marty Martin and Dennis and Allison Remington; 10 grandchildren, Patrick Marentette (Dawn), Elizabeth Remington, Lisa Remington, Roseanne Morgan (Greg), Robert Remington (Stephanie), Ronald Remington (Alexandria), Richard Remington (Susie), Chelsea Remington Smith (Jake), Meria Bowers and Hanna Remington. 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Schaming and Frances Troutman, as well numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Honorary pallbears are: Mike Remington, Larry Remington, Dennis Remington, Richard Remington, Robert Remington, and Patrick Marentette.

On Friday, September 17th, there will be a visitation with family at Daniels Funeral Home from 1-2 pm with a Funeral Mass to follow at 2 pm in the Griffin Chapel Funeral Home. A private Graveside Service and interment at Oaknoll Cemetery will follow the Funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to St,. Mary’s Catholic School (401 East Seventh Street SE, Rome GA 30161) or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

 

 


Renata Rochelle Howard, 56, of Cave Spring, GA passed away peacefully on September 11, 2021.

Rochelle grew up in Rome, GA and spent her life between her beloved communities of Cave Spring, GA and Moultrie, GA. Rochelle always brought sunshine and humor everywhere she went. She was well loved by her family, church family, and within her community. She will be dearly missed, and always remembered.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Todd Howard of Cave Spring, GA; daughter, Evelyn Thomley, husband, Justin, and children, Cameron, Landon, and Madelyn Thomley, of Loxley, AL; daughter, Rebecca Ordway, husband, Jonathan, children, Jon Will, and Elana Ordway, of Columbia, MO; daughter, Hannah Simpson, husband, Adam, and children, Nathan, Bentley, Job and Luke Simpson, of Cave Spring, GA; daughter, Alexis Avery and son, Rob Avery, of Cave Spring, GA; and son, Tyler Howard, of Cave Spring, GA. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Caldwell, of Rome, GA; sister, Reginia Stottlemyer, and husband, Gary of Rome, GA & VA; sister, Roxie Morris, and husband, Kevin, of Rome, GA; and sister Renee Blackburn, husband, Brent, of Armuchee, GA; Mother-in-law, Delorise Patterson, of Maryville, TN; sister-in-law, Lisa Appugliese, and husband, Roy Appugliese, of Maryville, TN; brother-in-law, Michael Wallin, and wife, Tarryn, of Franklin, TN. She is also survived by many beloved nephews, great nephews, and nieces.

She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Blackburn, of Moultrie, GA; and sister, Rhonda Alvarado, of Rome, GA.

A private service will be held at a Antioch Baptist Church at a later date.

Miss Tyera Johnson, age 24, of Rome, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, at a local hospital.

Tyera was born on February 18, 1997, in Rome, GA daughter of Tyler Jermain Johnson and April LaShawn Driver Allen.  She was preceded in death by her brother, JarNorris Horne. She was a graduate of Armuchee High School Class of 2015, and attended Jacksonville State University, and GNTC Nursing Program. Tyera worked as a caretaker, she loved taking care of her patients.

Survivors are her mother, April LaShawn Driver Allen (Ulric), Rome; father, Tyler Johnson, Rome; sisters, Ulrisha Allen, Naja Stocks, TiL’ar Johnson, Taylan Johnson, and Cameron Johnson; brother, Ulric Allen Jr., all of Rome; a very special sister, Aaliyah Vickers, of Rome.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 1:00 PM, at Rome Memorial Park with the Rev. Derrick McDaniel officiating.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM.

Pallbearers and flower girls are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12 noon and include: Pallbearers: Eric Hunt, Quinton Cotton, Orlando Floyd, Jacob Driver, Nius Morton, Brian Allsop, Robert Moore, Jr. and Deonta Morgan.  Flower girls: Teiaya Chilsom, Tiffany Turner, Ta’Lyn Whatley, Nykenge Peterson, and Jasmine Vickers.


Juanita Evelyn Steele Mize of Rome, Georgia, went to be with her heavenly Father eacefully surrounded by family members on September 4, 2021. We rejoice in knowing she is not only with Jesus but with her sweetheart – our daddy and grandfather – James William Mize, her beloved parents, brother and sisters.

She was born on March 18th in Trion Georgia to John Olen Steele and Pearle Mae Self Steele. Juanita enjoyed growing up in Tubize/Celanese village and later at her family home on Calhoun Road. She was a member of North Rome United Methodist Church and enjoyed lifelong friendships with her church family and her Sherwood Forest friends and neighbors. She enjoyed vacations to Saint Augustine Florida with her family and shopping at Christmas for her grandchildren when they were younger she always made Christmas fun and festive.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband – James William Mize, her only brother John (Butch) Steele. Her sisters and their spouses,Katherine (Tom) Centola, Bobbie June ( Buddy) Higgins, Norma Jane (Joe) Hurley, Her grandsons wife – Brandi Cornett Mathis, her sister in law – Margaret Mize (Charles) Summerville. She is survived by her four daughters, Nancy Mize, Alicia Mize, Jennifer Mize (Richard) Johnson,Stephanie “Jamie” Mize Mulkey, And A brother in law – Bill Mize; Grandchildren – Brandi Mathis Aiken, Stacie Mathis ( Jeremy) Bishop, James “Rick” Mathis, Hannahjahn Mulkey, Rebecca Johnson Hicks, Drew and Trey Johnson; Great grand children – Caitlyn, Noah James, Baylee, Ashley, Stella, Ezra, Azriel, Logan and Dakota; Numerous special nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sharon Delane Nolan, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021.

Sharon was born in Cave Spring, Georgia on September 15, 1935, daughter of the late Willom Davis Whorton and the late Sarah Geneva Whorton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hartwell E. Nolan Jr., and sister, Madrene Ballard. Sharon was a hairdresser for several years.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sharon loved her family, and she will be missed by all.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Nolan (Terrie), Bobby Nolan (Karen), Gevonne Nolan (Connie); sister, Sandra Dupree; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service was held at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Elaine McKnight Strickland, age 64 of Rome transitioned September 14, 2021. Service for Mrs. Strickland will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 1 pm at Lovejoy Baptist Church. Mrs. Strickland will lie instate from 12 noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow the service at Eastview Cemetery.

Public viewing for Mrs. Elaine Strickland will be Monday, September 20, 2021 from 11 am until 6 pm at F. K. Jones Funeral Home.


Mrs. Dorothy Carol Wiggins, age 81, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Wiggins was born on January 20, 1940, in Monticello, GA, daughter of the late Wade Charles Ingram and the late Laura Lucille Goodwin Ingram.  She was a graduate of Armuchee High School.  Mrs. Wiggins retired from the Briar Patch after many years of service.  She also, along with her sister, owned and operated “Cottage Antiques” on Old Dalton Road for many years.  She was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Wiggins, to whom she was married on October 12, 1960; 2 sons, Randy Wiggins (Halie), Rome, and Doug Wiggins, Rome; 2 grandsons, Randy Wiggins Jr., and Josh Wiggins; 2 great granddaughters, Emma Wiggins and Addie Wiggins; her sister, Dell Petty; her brother, Jim Ingram (Judy); nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with her Pastor, the Rev. Mac McCurry, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 9am until service time on Friday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.

The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to Pruitt Hospice for the tireless care and dedication they gave to Mrs. Wiggins.

Ms. Bobbie Elkins, age, 84 of Rome, Georgia. passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at a local hospital.

Billy Ray Smith, beloved husband of Audrey Kay Smith, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on September 14, 2021, while resting peacefully at his home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4pm on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 2pm until 3:45pm on Saturday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Billy loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family and friends, many of whom he met while working at Computer Automation, NCR, or as owner of Teledata SE/Ek-Con Communications.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lori Bridges (Brian), Pam Finnegan (Mike), and Erin Huether (Steve Smallwood); two sisters, Judy Odom and Kathy Green (Clay); brother, Clyde Smith (Pauline); his grandchildren, Madison Lenaghan (Neill), Bo Tucker (fiancée Kathryn Clark), Bryson Bridges, Molly Finnegan, Reid Finnegan, Blake Huether (Kalyn), Summer Smallwood and Gracie Smallwood; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois Elizabeth “Bobbeth” Hawkins, age 90, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully September 14, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Bobbeth was born April 10, 1931, daughter of the late Robert Catlow Stroop and Elizabeth Turner Garrard Stroop. She was a graduate of Shorter College and a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church. Bobbeth was active in S.O.W.E.R.S. Ministry and loved entertaining people. She was always singing and telling stories, loved to travel and spend time in the RV and go walking in the mall. Bobbeth was an accomplished artist and enjoyed working with pottery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Turner Stroop, and two sisters, Ellen Stroop and Edith Sanborn.

Bobbeth is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Douglas Hawkins, Jr., whom she married July 20, 1952; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Al Erkhart, and Ruthie and Tony Robinson; one son, John “Doug” Hawkins; four grandchildren, Beth (Ray) Campbell, Tim (Priscilla) Erkhart, Gary (Shanci) Robinson, and Jennifer (Jeff) Simpson. Six great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bub” and Rosella Stroop, and five sisters and brothers-in-law, Amelia Jones., Mary Sue Gilleland, Alice and Mack Rodgers, Sara and Mike Oldham, and Vickie Stroop, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

There will be a Gathering of Friends on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Salmon Funeral Home. A private funeral service will be held later.

The family request’s that all attendees please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
