Watch Rome’s Public Safety Committee discuss ‘downtown safety concerns’ during Thursday’s special meeting.

Rome City Commission’s Public Safety Committee had a special called meeting Thursday¬†in the City Auditorium. The agenda item was downtown safety concerns.¬†Among the topics will be the result of a few brawls on a recent Friday as well as ongoing safety concerns in downtown as well as the adjoining Between the Rivers neighborhoods.

On Monday, Aug. 23, Rome City commissioners heard a “first reading” of an ordinance that would roll back the curfew of those 17 and under from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. A second hearing — and accompanying public hearing — is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 13, before the commission.
