You can see the storm moving north along the Georgia-Alabama border on the western side of Floyd County right now.

A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT PORTIONS OF SOUTHWESTERN FLOYD
AND SOUTHWESTERN CHATTOOGA COUNTIES THROUGH 900 PM EDT...

AT 830 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A
STRONG STORM WITHIN A TROPICAL RAIN BAND NEAR CAVE SPRING, OR NEAR
FORNEY...MOVING NORTH AT 35 MPH.

HAZARD...ENHANCED RISK OF A BRIEF TORNADO.

SOURCE...RADAR INDICATED.

IMPACT...STORMS EMBEDDED WITHIN A TROPICAL RAINBAND HAVE EXHIBITED 
         LOCALIZED ROTATION. A BRIEF TORNADO COULD QUICKLY FORM.

SOME LOCATIONS IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM INCLUDE
ROME, CAVE SPRING, CHATTOOGAVILLE, COOSA AND HOLLAND. 

 

 


The above summary from the National Weather Service says it all. Already Monday afternoon, we have tracked warnings for a possible tornado in Floyd/Chattooga and another in Gordon County area (and immediate surrounding counties). No tornadoes were found but the weather service posted warnings both times. We’ll likely see more later this evening and into Tuesday.

Please be sure to subscribe to the Code Red or other alert services. Likewise, keep your phones and electronics charged in case of power loss. We’ll see some heavy rain and 25-mph gusts over the next 24 hours.

 

 

THE LATEST

Flash flood watch from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 2 p.m. Wednesday:

Rainfall associated with Tropical Storm Ida will being to move into Northwestern Georgia Tuesday morning and expand into Northern Georgia by Tuesday afternoon. 3 to 5 inches of rain is expected through the flash flood watch area with isolated heavier amounts possible. As the remnants of Ida moves through, additional bands of rainfall may cause training of storms through Wednesday that may lead to additional flash flooding concerns.
