Buzz: Repair work on I-75 south bridge to close one lane today near Emerson. Rome Board of Education meets Monday. Swim center closing after Tuesday. Changes to getting published on Hometown Headlines start Monday.

Weather permitting, Georgia DOT Maintenance crews will repair a handrail Friday damaged in a wreck earlier this week on I-75 south near Emerson. The repairs will shut down the left southbound lane of I-75 on the bridge over Joe Stella Drive, south of Exit 283/Allatoona Road. Motorists should expect delays in the area during the repairs. Hours: 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.


The Rome Board of Education will have a called meeting on Monday, Aug. 2, at 7:30 a.m. in Room A201 at the Rome City Schools College and Career Academy at 990 Veterans Memorial Highway NE.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Back to School Guidance as well as other items.


Swim center closing after Tuesday. “The summer swim season is coming to an end, and the final day of open swimming is Tuesday, Aug. 3. Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation thanks everyone for coming out to swim and enjoy all the fun and looks forward to seeing everyone again in 2022.”

 


Changes to getting published on Hometown Headlines:

Beginning Monday, Aug. 2, any community listing or community gathering media release must include the following information. If not, the item will not be published on our websites or on our social media.
  • Mask policy: That includes masks required, masks recommended or no mask requirement.
  • Vaccinations: Briefly include what the vaccination policy is for the sponsoring group or organization.
Political candidate statements/declarations: All candidates for municipal elections this year (election day is Nov. 2) will be asked to include details on whether they’ve been vaccinated as well as text Hometown a copy of the vaccination cards as proof.
  • Candidates also can say if they haven’t been vaccinated and why.
  • All candidate profiles also will include a question on the candidate’s vaccination position.
  • Candidates failing to do so will not be covered other than to announce they’re on the ballot.
