Sara Grace Abernathy, the Noon Optimist Club of Rome’s contestant in the oratorical championships, has been named the regional champion. Says the post from the club on Facebook: “Our club also awarded her $1,000 for making it to the highest level ever of a contestant from our club.”
As an eighth-grader at Model Middle School, she earlier won the Optimist International GATEway District Oratorical Contest. While representing the Rome Noon Optimist Club, Sara Grace placed first place in the District finals held in Tucker after hundreds of students throughout Georgia and Eastern Tennessee over the last couple of months have competed in local club contests and district level regional contests.
A full day is planned, from ribbon cutting to a community open house.
Ribbon-cutting set for the Rome/Floyd Fire Department Burn Building on Aug. 2: The ceremony is set for 8 a.m. a.m. at 168 North Ave. in Rome. From the fire department: “We are excited about the new burn building that was made possible by the 2017 SPLOST.”
