Chattooga resident latest COVID victim; region at 668. No new cases in Floyd for fifth consecutive day per state health department.


The region has now lost 668 residents to COVID since March 2020. Another 95 residents have been identified as “probable” victims.

Northwest Georgia:

  • Chattooga loses 68th resident to COVID. Totals: 668 deaths; 94 probable deaths.
  • 5 patients in Floyd, Redmond as of Thursday.
  • 8 new cases in Northwest Georgia. Record: 404 on Jan. 22.

The lowest number of COVID patients in Rome hospitals in a year were posted again Friday; four patients in Floyd Medical Center as well as 1 patient awaiting results; 1 patient at Redmond Regional Medical Center. On June 2, 2020, two patients total were in both hospitals before a fall and winter surge pushed totals to 166 patients combined on Jan. 6, 2021.

  • Floyd: 10,079. Fifth day in a row without a new case posted.
  • Bartow: 11,393, up 6.
  • Gordon: 6,544, up 2.
  • Polk: 3,979, down 1.
  • Chattooga: 2,262, up 1.
  • TOTAL: 34,258.
