Downtown Rome traffic was stopped Tuesday afternoon as Floyd County sheriff’s deputies and Rome Police swarmed the driver of a truck on Second Avenue just up from Broad Street. Witnesses shared a brief video and a photo of the arrest, and said police took the man from the cab of the truck to arrest him. The truck had been stolen from Hi-Tech, Assistant Chief of Police Debbie Burnett says.
Floyd County Jail reports show Donnie S. Baker,31, of Rome was arrested at Second Avenue and West First Street, and charged with:
- Possession and use of drug-related objects.
- Possession of meth.
- Probation violation.
- Operation of a commercial motor vehicle without a valid license.
- Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
- Theft by taking (motor vehicle).
