Sheriff’s deputies, Rome Police pull driver from cab, arrest him on Second Avenue near Broad Street Tuesday. Video and photo.

Downtown Rome traffic was stopped Tuesday afternoon as Floyd County sheriff’s deputies and Rome Police swarmed the driver of a truck on Second Avenue just up from Broad Street. Witnesses shared a brief video and a photo of the arrest, and said police took the man from the cab of the truck to arrest him. The truck had been stolen from Hi-Tech, Assistant Chief of Police Debbie Burnett says.

Floyd County Jail reports show Donnie S. Baker,31, of Rome was arrested at Second Avenue and West First Street, and charged with:

  • Possession and use of drug-related objects.
  • Possession of meth.
  • Probation violation.
  • Operation of a commercial motor vehicle without a valid license.
  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
  • Theft by taking (motor vehicle).
