Newswatch: Prayer breakfast returns Thursday. Big agenda for planning commission. Backyard BBQ Bash, Cody Johnson this weekend. Saturday: Scott Thompson concert.

 

Thursday: The 2021 Rome Area Prayer Breakfast will be held at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds Community Building. Doors open at 6:30 a.m. to guests for seating. The program begins at 7 and ends promptly at 8:30. This year’s gifted keynote speaker is Sujo John, an author, international speaker, 911 survivor and founder of YouCanFreeUS – an international organization devoted to ending human trafficking. Also, Nathan and Jane Phillips, founders of Battlefield Ministries, will be awarded the distinguished Hugh Burnes Christian Service Award. Friday-Saturday: Rome-Floyd Parks and Rec will host its Backyard BBQ Bash cook-off competition at Ridge Ferry Park.

Saturday: The Family Resource Center will host a fundraising concert, An Evening with Scott Thompson, Songs I Wrote and Songs I Wish I Wrote,  at 6 p.m. at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds in the Special Events Pavilion. Guests will be seated in pre-assigned 8 by 8 boxes under a covered but open air pavilion (maximum four people per box).  Masks are required outside of assigned seating.  Gates open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7.  Ticket options range from $150 (standard space for four; guests bring own lawn chairs) to $500 (front row seating that provides a table and seating for four).  Boxed meals are available for purchase from The Season Events (no outside food or beverage permitted).
