THE  LATEST

We’re soaked. Heavy rain, especially with the final storm Tuesday night, left more than two inches in some areas; at least three inches in Cave Spring.

And some are powerless. At 5:45 Wednesday morning, more than 750 Georgia Power and North Georgia EMC customers in our five-county area were without service.

Damage control: A few trees down, especially one in Kingston (photo below).

RAINFALL

The Oostanaula River in Rome is approaching “flood stage.” The river should peak below flood stage, 25 feet. (See above)

  • Rainfall, 6 a.m. Monday -11 p.m. Tuesday: 2.40 inches in Rome; 2.18 inches in Cartersville.

Flood warning at Lock and Dam Park: 24.2 feet and rising. Flood stage is 24 feet.  At 24 feet, Minor flooding begins of the woodlands… fields and pastures along the river upstream and downstream from the gage on the old Lock and Dam behind the Trading Post. The boat ramp will be mostly under water at the Lock and Dam park

Georgia Power:

  • Floyd: 5 customers.
  • Bartow: 34.
  • Gordon: 50.
  • Polk: 127.
  • Chattooga: 5

North Georgia EMC outages:

  • Summerville: 18

FORECAST

Wednesday: A slight chance of showers before 8am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8am and noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49. North wind around 5 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 47.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 73.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 47.
