Rome’s Downtown Development Authority has received the OK for public consumption of alcohol at a series of seasonal events. The unanimous yes vote came last week from the city’s Alcohol Control Commission. The requests were:

  • May 1 for the Ellen Axson-Wilson Arts Fest in downtown Rome from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. No streets will be closed.
  • First Friday concerts set for June 4, July 2, Aug, 6 and Sept. 3 at Town Green. Fans can’t bring their own drinks but are encouraged to buy from downtown restaurants. Hours: 6-11 p.m.
  • Oct. 9 for Fiddlin’ Fest; 11 a.m. with alcohol consumption stopping by 10 p.m.

A called meeting of Rome’s Redevelopment Committee is set for Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Sam King Room at City Hall. Among the agenda items: A “proposal for project on Braves Boulevard.”

Monday: Weather permitting, GDOT Maintenance crews will be resurfacing a portion of I-75 in Bartow County, which will close two left northbound lanes and the left shoulder between mileposts 289 and 299 (Main Street and north past Cass-White). Expect delays in the area. Motorists should expect delays. 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
