Mrs. Carolyn Smart Perkins, age 84, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away Wednesday morning, April 14, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Perkins was born in Cherokee County, AL on September 19, 1936, daughter of the late John Felton Smart and the late Janie Estelle Malone Smart.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Elbert Perkins, by a daughter, Janice Duisen, by a grandson, Jamie Kennamer, and by 9 siblings.  After having been employed with West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. in Lindale for a number of years, she retired from Valley Vend Services following several years of employment.  She was member of Silver Creek Church of God where she served as a faithful Young Adults Sunday School teacher for over 30 years.  She was devoted to her family and her church, always showing the love of God to everyone she met.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Brewer (Lane), Rome; her son, Joseph Kennamer (Becky), Rome; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Hood (Ray), Stephanie Ayers (Kirk), Amanda Mayberry (Charlie), Jessica Williams (Cory), Joseph Kennamer, and Briana Chapman; several great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerald Eaves and the Rev. Michael Edwards officiating.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 1pm until the service hour.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at 2:30 pm and include:  Joseph Kennamer, Kirk Ayers, Ray Hood, Jordan Hood, Jonathan Hood, and Chris Farrer.

 


Rev. Elton Durell (Peanut Man) Hobbs, age 74, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at his residence.

Rev. Hobbs was born in Dexter, GA on February 12, 1947, son of the late Erven Hobbs and the late Rosa Mullis Hobbs.  He was a self-employed vendor and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, the former Myra Earwood Shiflett, to whom he was married on March 31, 2012; a daughter, Miss Lynn Hobbs, Glennville, GA; a son, Daniel Hobbs, Claxton, GA; 2 stepsons, Rev. Sammy Shiflett (Brandy), Silver Creek and Nick Shiflett (Heather), Adairsville; 9 grandchildren and 2 nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021, at 7pm at Unity Baptist Church. The Rev. Sammy Shiflett and the Rev. Harold Ingram will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 5pm until time for the service.

Mrs. Margaret Brindley Christian Groover, age 76, of Hemphill Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021, in a Rome hospital.  She was born in Dundee, Scotland on February 18, 1945, a daughter of the late Milford Lee and Margaret Milne Brindley Christian.  Mrs. Groover was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and formerly worked for St. Paul Insurance Company in customer service.  In addition to Her Parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, the late Heather Oliver.

Surviving are Her husband, Patrick Groover; daughters, Jamie Richey (Wayne) and Cherie Oliver (Bradley); sisters, Elaine Fanning (Roland) and Eileen Stallard; grandchildren, Christopher Oliver, Nicolas Oliver, Charis Richey, Brian Richey, and Brindley Richey; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 17, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mac McCurry officiating, interment in Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Georgia.  Active Pallbearers Steve Morrison, Gene Smith, Christopher Oliver, Nicholas Oliver, Brian Richey, and Larry Cook.  Visitation Saturday (April 17) from Noon until 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.


Ms. Charlene Turner, age 60, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on April 8, 2021.

Graveside service will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Rose Hill Cemetery, Rockmart, Georgia.

Ms. Joy Ann McGee, age 71, of Rome, GA, and formerly of Florence, SC, and Adel, GA, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at her residence.

Ms. McGee was born in Florence, SC on March 27, 1950, daughter of the late H. L. McGee and the late Mary Lou McKnight McGee. She was a graduate of  Southside High School.  She was involved in sales for many years and associated with the H. L. McGee Realty Company.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Misty Tucker (Michael), Silver Creek, GA; a son, Joseph Shay Bass, Shippensburg, PA; 2 grandchildren, Taylor Hambrick (Josh) and Jordan Nipper, and her canine friend, Piper.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 2pm in Mt. Hope Memorial Cemetery, Florence, SC.
