Mr. William Judson “Bill” Strain Jr., age 90, of Athens, GA, a longtime resident of Rome, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at an Athens hospital.

Mr. Strain was born in Rome, Georgia on May 19, 1930, son of the late William Judson Strain, Sr. and the late Minnie Barnett Strain.  He was also preceded in death by a son, William Judson Strain, III, by a brother, Paul Nathan Strain, and by a sister, Melba Strain Lumley.  Mr. Strain was a 1948 graduate of Cartersville High School. He was a member of Cleveland Road Baptist Church in Bogart, GA and was a former member of the Armuchee Ruritan Club.  Prior to retirement, Mr. Strain worked as a sales representative for Battey Machinery Company for 45 years.  He loved singing in the Adult Choir at every church he was a member of through the years.

Survivors include his wife, JoEllen Foss Strain, Athens; a daughter, Anna Strain Moore (Ed), Bayside, NY; four grandchildren, Parker Strain Moore (Audrey), Bogart, Charles Strain Moore (Molly), Charlotte, NC; Savannah Kathryn Dauster (Drew), Louisville, KY, and Madison Florence Moore, Louisville, KY; seven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 11am at East View Cemetery.  Ed Moore, Parker Moore, and Charlie Moore will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Tuesday from 4 until 6pm.  Social distancing measures will be followed, and masks are requested.

Mrs. Jackie Smith Brooks, age 82, 3126 Cedartown Highway, Rome, passed away at her residence on Friday evening, April 9, 2021.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Soddy Daisy, TN on November 7, 1938.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Al Brooks, in 1996.  She is survived by her children, Bob (Caroline) Brooks and Nancy (Jeff) Williams; her sister, Linda (Dean) Regula; grandchildren, Alan Brooks, Danielle Bolen, Jordan Shuler and Jake Williams; great grandchildren, Jackson, Brooklyn, Jacob, and Ella Grace. She will be missed by nieces, nephews, and life-long friends.

Mrs. Brooks enjoyed life to the fullest and always had a smile on her face.  The family would like to thank the staff at the Renaissance Marquis for their love and compassion during Mrs. Brooks’ time there.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown, Cedartown Junior Service League, Cedartown O.E.S. #213 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.  She tirelessly volunteered her time to various organizations within her community.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the graveside in Polk Memory Gardens in Cedartown, GA. The Rev. Wayne Benefield will officiate.

Mrs. Doris Duke Keith, age 84, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully at her residence Sunday evening, April 11, 2021.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in New Antioch Baptist Church of Shannon, GA.

Mrs. Keith’s family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the services hour.

A complete obituary will be announced later by Salmon Funeral Home.
