FLOODING

From Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation: Because of high water and flooding, several local parks will be closed to the public over the weekend with plans to reopen as soon as the water recedes and it’s safe to open.

  • Parks that are closed are Tolbert Park, Riverview Park, Heritage Park and the south side of Ridge Ferry Park, including the trail behind the E.C.O. Center.
  • The Easter at the Ridge event at Ridge Ferry Park scheduled for Sunday, April 4, will now take place at Calvary Baptist Church.  It will be in the church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Bring your coffee and a lawn chair for outdoor seating. Details

  • Freeze warning ends at 10 morning. Low so far this morning: 34 degrees.
  • Freeze watch from midnight until 10 a.m. Saturday.
  • High fire danger today because of low humidity: Relative Humidities of 25 percent or less can be expected for 4 or more hours this afternoon into the evening. Winds will be the from N to NE at 6 to 12 MPH with gusts up to 20 mph possible. With dry fuels, high fire danger conditions can be expected.

Friday: Areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 54. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Friday Night: Areas of frost after 2am. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 29. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Saturday: Areas of frost before 9am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 64. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph.

* At 8:30 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 23.8 feet and rising slowly.
* Flood stage is 21.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast...No forecast is available for this location.
* Impact...At 23.0 feet, Minor flooding continues to expand into the
  woodlands...fields and pastures upstream and downstream from the
  gage behind the water treatment plant off Mauldin Road. A boat
  ramp and small parking lot on the upstream and right bank side of
  the Georgia Highway 136 Connector will be under at least 2 feet of
  water.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Oostanaula River near Resaca.
* Until late Saturday night.
* At 9:15 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 22.0 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 23.3 feet
  Friday evening. It will then fall below flood stage Saturday
  afternoon.
* Impact...At 24.0 feet, Minor flooding continues in the woodlands...
  fields and pastures along the river upstream and downstream from
  the gage on U S Highway 41 or Battlefield Parkway.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Coosa River near Rome Mayos Bar L & D Park.
* Until further notice.
* At 7:45 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 28.6 feet and nearly steady.
* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast...No forecast is available for this location.
* Impact...At 29.0 feet, Minor flooding continues to expand further
  into the woodlands...fields and pastures along the river upstream
  and downstream from the gage on the old Lock and Dam behind the
  Trading Post. The water will reach the top of the old Lock and Dam
  structure.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Armuchee Creek near Armuchee.
* Until Saturday evening.
* At 7:45 PM EDT Thursday the stage was 21.9 feet and falling.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage Friday
  evening and continue falling.
* Impact...At 21.0 feet, Minor flooding continues and expands
  further into the woodlands...fields and pastures along the creek
  upstream and downstream from the gage on Old Dalton Road.
