THE LATEST

From Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation: Because of high water and flooding, several local parks will be closed to the public over the weekend with plans to reopen as soon as the water recedes and it’s safe to open.

  • Parks that are closed are Tolbert Park, Riverview Park, Heritage Park and the south side of Ridge Ferry Park, including the trail behind the E.C.O. Center.
  • The Easter at the Ridge event at Ridge Ferry Park scheduled for Sunday, April 4, will now take place at Calvary Baptist Church.  It will be in the church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Bring your coffee and a lawn chair for outdoor seating. Details

Wind advisory now through until 7 p.m. Gusts of 35 mph with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph.

Freeze warning for Northwest Georgia from midnight until 10 a.m. Friday: We could see temperatures in the upper 20s overnight. No mention yet of a potential black ice threat early Friday.

Easter Sunday: After a low of 36, sunny and 70.

Rome saw 11.61 inches of rain in March, the unofficial total from the agricultural weather station off Bells Ferry. For the year, it shows 19.1 inches.

Wednesday’s rainfall, from 2 a.m. until 7 p.m.

  • Rome: 1.61 inches.
  • Cartersville: 1.53 inches.
  • Calhoun: 1.58 inches.

FORECAST

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 53. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday Night: Areas of frost after 4am. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 28. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: Areas of frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 54. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Friday Night: Clear, with a low around 29.

Saturday: Areas of frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 64.

  the Armuchee Creek near Armuchee.
* Until further notice.
* At 4:45 AM EDT Thursday the stage was 22.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 19.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 22.6 feet
  late this afternoon.
* Impact...At 23.0 feet, Minor flooding expands further into the
  woodlands...fields and pastures along the creek upstream and
  downstream from the gage on Old Dalton Road.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Coosa River near Rome Mayos Bar L & D Park.
* Until further notice.
* At 4:45 AM EDT Thursday the stage was 28.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 24.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring.
* Forecast...No forecast is available for this location.
* Impact...At 29.0 feet, Minor flooding continues to expand further
  into the woodlands...fields and pastures along the river upstream
  and downstream from the gage on the old Lock and Dam behind the
  Trading Post. The water will reach the top of the old Lock and Dam
  structure.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Oostanaula River near Rome US Hwy. 27.
* From late tonight to late Thursday night.
* At 8:45 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 24.3 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
  tonight to a crest of 25.6 feet early Thursday afternoon. It will
  then fall below flood stage Thursday evening.
* Impact...At 25.0 feet, Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding
  occurs in the woodlands and fields along the river upstream and
  downstream from the gage on the Turner McCall bridge or U.S.
  Highway 27. The Heritage Park Rome Greenway continues to flood
  with some locations up to 5 feet deep. All drainage valves must be
  closed at the outfalls in Rome. The flood gate on the Rome levee
  should be closed.
The Flood Warning continues for
  the Oostanaula River near Resaca.
* From Thursday morning to Sunday afternoon.
* At 8:15 PM EDT Wednesday the stage was 21.1 feet and rising.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late
  tonight to a crest of 25.4 feet Friday evening. It will then fall
  below flood stage early Sunday morning.
* Impact...At 26.0 feet, Minor flooding continues to expand further
  into the woodlands...fields and pastures along the river upstream
  and downstream from the gage on U S Highway 41 or Battlefield
  Parkway.
THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR
  THE CHATTOOGA RIVER NEAR SUMMERVILLE.
* UNTIL THURSDAY EVENING.
* AT 8:45 PM EDT WEDNESDAY THE STAGE WAS 14.0 FEET AND RISING.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 14.0 FEET.
* MINOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING.
* FORECAST...THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO RISE TO A CREST OF 15.9 FEET 
  THURSDAY MORNING. IT WILL THEN FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE THURSDAY 
  AFTERNOON.
* IMPACT...AT 16.0 FEET, MINOR FLOODING CONTINUES AND EXPANDS 
  FURTHER INTO THE WOODLANDS AND FIELDS ALONG THE RIVER UPSTREAM AND 
  DOWNSTREAM FROM THE GAGE ON U.S. HIGHWAY 27 OR ROME BOULEVARD.
