Jobs: Employment rebound continued across Northwest Georgia in February, state Labor Department shows.

 

Northwest Georgia saw positive over-the-month measures for every key indicator in February, including Rome and Bartow County, the state Labor Department shows.

“February’s numbers are a strong indication the state is getting back to where it was prior to the pandemic,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “Not only are we seeing growth for nearly every indicator in each MSA, but we are seeing the momentum start to switch in our favor. The unemployment rates are drastically dropping, the labor force numbers are gearing up, and most importantly, we are seeing initial claims decrease in almost every MSA.”

Rome/Floyd County:

  • The unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points in February, reaching 4.1 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.7 percent.
  • The labor force increased in Rome by 586 and ended the month with 44,462. That number is down 15 when compared to February of 2020.
  • Rome finished the month with 42,634 employed residents.  That number increased by 841 over the month and is down by 211 when compared to the same time a year ago.
  • Rome ended February with 40,600 jobs. That number increased by 300 from January to February and decreased by 1,100 when compared to this time last year.
  • The number of unemployment claims went down by 39 percent in Rome. When compared to last February, claims were up by about 163 percent.

Cartersville/Bartow County:

  • The unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points, bringing the rate to 4.2 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.
  • The labor force increased in February by 393. The February total was 50,470. That number is down by 1,329 from the total from February 2020.
  • Bartow County ended February with 48,375 employed residents.  The number increased by 682 in February but was down 1,684 as compared to last year.
  • Initial claims for unemployment decreased by 29 percent in February. When compared to last February, claims were up by about 369 percent.
  • The GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 665 active job postings in Bartow County for February.

Northwest Georgia:

  •  The unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points, bringing the rate to 3.7 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.
  • The labor force increased in February by 4,200. The February total was 422,716. That number is down by 7,333 from the total from February 2020.
  • Northwest Georgia ended February with 407,103 employed residents.  The number increased by 6,576 in February but was down 8,230 as compared to last year.
  • Initial claims for unemployment decreased by 34 percent in February. When compared to last February, claims were up by about 288 percent.
  • The GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 4,574 active job postings in Northwest Georgia for February.
