Mrs. JoAnn Swopshire Smith, age 69, of Rome, passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Smith was born in Knoxville, TN on June 3, 1951, daughter of the late Fred Swopshire and the late Hattie Lamb Swopshire. She had worked at Mohawk Industries for over 12 years prior to her retirement.  She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Roy Russell Mullins, Sr. and by 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors include 2 sons, Roy Russell Mullins, Jr. (Maranda) , Lindale and Keith Allen Mullis, Adairsville; 5 grandchildren, Skylar Jade Weaver, Dorothy Grace Mullins, Harleigh Annette Mullins, JP Russell Mullins and Anthony Allen; 4 brothers, Junior Ray Swopshire, Summerville, Roy Trammell, Summerville, Ernest Trammell, Rome and Billy Ray Swopshire, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Jackie Culberson, Jr. and the Rev. Adriane Craig will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morning View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 3pm until time for the service.

Mr. Andy William Gaylor, age 62 of Rome, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021.  He was born on April 25, 1958.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later time.

Mrs. Jerry Ann Holder, age 84, of Rome, GA, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Holder was born on July 10, 1936, in Knoxville, TN, daughter of the late Henry Raymond Aycock and the late Ottie Victoria Nix Aycock.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayman Marian Holder, by 5 siblings, Marguerite Curry, Raymojean Dietrich, Lorraine Goode, Jim Aycock and Dick Barker, and by 2 special family members, Ava Lee Horton and Florence Fowler.

Mrs. Holder was a 1954 graduate of Rome High School where she was crowned Miss Rome High in 1954.  Before her retirement, she was employed with The Piedmont Agency for 42 years.  Mrs. Holder was a member of Beta Sigma Phi ladies national service sorority, Xi Beta RHO chapter.  She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Vicki Holder Lester, Rome, and Alison Holder Ciccone (John), Haymarket, VA; 6 grandchildren, Erin Olsen (John), Nashville, TN, Jonathan Lester (Emily), Atlanta, Lauren Ciccone, Haymarket, VA, Caroline Anne Ciccone, Haymarket, VA, Randy Lester (Jennifer), Columbus, and Lorrie Hampson (Craig), Kennesaw; 5 great-grandchildren, Alex Olsen, Nashville, TN, Kaitlyn and Caroline Lester, both of Columbus, Amelia Jane Olsen, Nashville, and Campbell Way Lester, Atlanta; a brother, John Aycock, Atlanta; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021, in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James Wright, Jr. officiating.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11am until 1pm at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed and the family requests masks be worn.

Pallbearers are to assemble on Saturday by 12:30pm at the funeral home and include:  Active; Jesse Garay, Randy Lester, Jonathan Lester, John Ciccone, Dr. John Olsen, Craig Hampson, David Fowler and Ray Fowler; Honorary; Beta Sigma Phi, XI Beta RHO Chapter.

Flowers will be accepted but the family would prefer you to consider a memorial donation to The Open Door Home.

 Mrs. Ruth Wyleene Fincher Edge, age 86, of Rome, GA, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Edge was born in Floyd County, GA on September 20, 1934, daughter of the late Paul Reece Fincher and the late Lillie Sarah Ann Fountain Fincher.  Mrs. Edge was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Edge.

Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Potts, Rome; 2 sons, Timothy Edge and Barry Edge, both of Rome; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 11:30am at the graveside in East View Cemetery.  The Rev. Clifford Free will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 10 until 11am.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.


Mr. Stanley Wayne Kelley Sr., age 73, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Kelley was born in Floyd County, GA on September 3, 1947, son of the late Clarence M. Kelley and the late Inez Garland Kelley.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Kelley.  Before his retirement, Mr. Kelley was a self-employed truck driver and heavy machine operator.  He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Ann Bradshaw Kelley, Rome, to whom he was married on December 27, 1967; 2 sons, Stanley Wayne Kelley, Jr. (Michelle), Silver Creek, and Jason Wayne Kelley (Dondra), Cave Spring; 4 granddaughters, Morgan Kelley, Lauren Kelley, Lexie Kelley and Sara Kate Kelley; 4 sisters, Jennie Sue Trammell, Cedartown, Mary Ellen Reynolds (Charles), Covington, Linda Eden, Rome, and Christine Childers, Lindale; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, April 2, 2021, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Brandon Bruce officiating.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park, South.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 1, 2021, from 5pm until 7pm at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.  Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Pallbearers are to assemble on Friday by 1:30pm and include:  Tonnie Allen, Jimmy Miller, Jimmy Keithley, Jamie Thomas, Ronnie Beck, Joel Dempsey, Gary Burkhalter and Johnny Mooney.


Doyal Nicklus Story was born on July 12, 1942 and passed away on March 29, 2021 and is under the care of Daniel’s Funeral Home.


Sara Bell Cordle Sprayberry, age 89, of Rome passed away Monday March 29, 2021 at a local hospital.

Sara was born on July 20, 1931 in Floyd County, to the late Ralph Cordle and Inez Buffington Cordle. She was member of Livingston United Methodist Church and Attendent Baptist Church. Sara worked at Pet Bakery for 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband C.L. “Bud” Sprayberry; grandchild: Steve Byars; brothers: Larry Cordle, Frank Cordle, and Billy Cordle.

Survivors include her children: Ted (April) Sprayberry, and Ann (Dale) Byars; grandchildren: Trudy Byars, Buddy Byars, Tyler Sprayberry, and Blake (Emily) Russell; great grandchildren: Maddox and Scout Russell; brother: Phillip (Gail) Cordle; sisters: Shirley Carr, and Nancy (Jerry) Nettuno.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 1, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with her son in law Rev. Dale Byars officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday March 31, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are the following gentlemen: Buddy Byars, Tyler Sprayberry, Blake Russell, Jeff Tolbert, Calvin Tolbert, Ray Boyd. Honorary Pallbearers: Alan Clonts.


Mr. Joseph A. Burns, age 86, of Rome, GA, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021, in a local hospital.

Mr. Burns was born in Woodward, OK, on April 9, 1934, son of the late Charles and Blanche Cobalt Burns. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Manatee Church of Christ. Mr. Burns was a self-employed mechanic and loved reading and studying his Bible. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Burns.

Mr. Burns is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Dawn Burns; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Neal Hufstetler. Three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren along with a brother, Paul McMasters, and two sisters, Patsey Wilson and Mona Fay Patrick, also survive.

A memorial service for Mr. Burns was held on Tuesday evening, March 30, 2021,  in the Alvis Miller Memorial Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Chaplain Marvin Richardson officiating.

Mr. Burns will be taken to Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 for inurnment.
