Floyd Elections Board agrees to let elections clerk resign rather than press announced termination; search continues for a replacement.

Finding a new office spot could be one of the challenges facing Floyd’s next elections chief. Hometown photo.

The Floyd County Board of Elections has agreed to change the termination of elections chief Robert Brady into a scenario where he’ll be allowed to resign. The board held a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday to review “personnel matters.” The outcome was the announced change, termination to resignation, which all comes as a search continues for a new chief elections clerk.

Brady was fired Nov. 19 by the board after the chaotic final few months of the general election cycle. Brady had the opportunity to appeal but that process was prolonged because of different parties contracting coronavirus. Hometown Headlines has had an Open Records Request on file since November regarding Brady’s termination; that response was delayed by the stalled appeals process.

Tuesday’s decision ends the Brady saga. His hiring was announced in November 2018.

So what’s next? Here’s our recent update:

The process was delayed by COVID cases among some of those involved.
