North Avenue collision kills 37-year-old man; third fatality this week in Rome.

A 37-year-old Rome man has died following a collision that shut down parts of North Avenue Thursday in Rome near PAWS animal shelter.

Hector Guzman, 37, was killed in the accident, sustaining head and chest wounds, according to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor. The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma. Guzman was pronounced dead at Floyd Medical Center at 11:35 a.m.

Proctor said the other driver also was injured.

Guzman was the third person to die on Rome roads this week. A father and son — Jose Pompilio Cornejo-Cornejo, 61, and Jose Cornejo-Cornejo, 18 — were killed in a collision on Redmond Circle Sunday evening. Their bodies were transported to the GBI crime lab on Wednesday; that accident remains under investigation by Rome Police. Background
