Gordon, Polk residents among latest COVID victims. 39 patients in Floyd, Redmond on Friday, down 3. Vaccine clinic Saturday at Lovejoy; nearly 33,000 have both doses in NW Georgia.

It was a year ago, March 5, 2020, when Georgia “officially” recorded the first coronavirus death. Since then, 15,462 people have died including 574 from Northwest Georgia. Statewide, another 2,288 “probable deaths” have been linked to the virus as well, meaning nearly 18,000 people have died since the pandemic began.
The state has lost 42 people per day since the pandemic began and the deadliest months were January (2,698 victims) and February (2,498 victims).
Georgia’s total death toll — COVID and probable — is ranked eighth in the country behind California, New York, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Illinois. By population, Georgia is the country’s eighth largest state (10.6 million). Source: Worldometers

Saturday: COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic at Lovejoy Baptist Church from noon-4 p.m. This is for those on Group 1A+ only including adults age 65 and older, law enforcement, firefighters, first responders, healthcare workers and residents/staff of long-term care facilities. Registration not required.
