Wednesday: Harbin Clinic is hosting Coffee with Cardiologists in honor of February’s Heart Month. It is virtual Q&A  with six Harbin Clinic cardiologists representing Rome, Cartersville, and Calhoun. During the event set for 8 a.m., cardiovascular experts will discuss prioritization of heart health as it relates to maintaining overall wellness, easy and effective lifestyle changes to optimize heart function, and how strong vascular health plays a significant role in the fight against COVID-19. Coffee with Cardiologists is hosted in partnership with the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce, the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce and the Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce. Those who attend the virtual event are invited to visit their local chamber for a free cup of outdoor, socially distanced coffee from Java Joy. Saturday: Heart of the Community Heart Walk, Cycle, Paddle presented by Redmond will be at 10:30 a.m. Ridge Ferry Park near the Rome-Floyd ECO Center. The 2021 Heart of the Community recipients will be recognized. Come enjoy coffee and “air hugs” from our friends at Java Joy Rome, and enjoy a heart-healthy walk along Rome’s beautiful trail system. This event is FREE and open to the public. For everyone’s safety, we’ll be social distancing and masking. Saturday: 2021 Heart of the Community Awards of Honor will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Seven of our local residents will be recognized for their service to our community. The 2021 recipients include:  Emily Hjort, Dr. Matt McClain, Nelle Reagan (posthumous award), Monica Sheppard, Allen and Alfred Shropshire, and Julie Smith.  Please click here to read more about each one.


Saturday: The annual Highlands Writers Conference organized by Georgia Highlands College faculty and staff makes a virtual return on Feb. 27. It is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in joining should register early. There is no deadline for registration, but each workshop will only hold 20 participants at a time. Visit hwc.highlands.edu to register for the free event and even receive a free HWC shirt by mail.
