A 30-year-old Lindale man has died after being struck by a train Monday evening near Hall Road.
Floyd County Deputy Coroner John Hamilton says the victim, now identified as Matthew Jordan Courson, was struck from behind while walking along the tracks and that the death was ruled accidental. He died from blunt force trauma.
Floyd County Police Sgt. Chris Fincher says Courson was wearing ear buds at the time and that the Norfolk Southern engineer repeatedly blew the train’s horn to alert him. The train was unable to stop in time, Fincher adds.
An advisory was posted by Floyd E-911 around 6 p.m. Monday after a traffic delay in the area as first responders were on the scene.
