GHSA State Basketball Tournament: Round 1 (Girls) Games to be played Tuesday or Wednesday; click region for brackets.

Class 6A:  Wednesday: Dacula at Rome. 6:30 p.m. All fans required to wear a face covering to enter the facility. No fans on the gym floor. There will be row closures (as indicated by signage) to allow for social distancing.

Class 5A:

  • Grady at Cass (no. 5, state 5A)
  • Tuesday: Calhoun at Maynard Jackson. 6 p.m. No fans/parents allowed (Atlanta Public School district decision)
  • Cartersville at New Manchester

A Private: Tuesday, King’s Ridge at Darlington, 7 p.m. Attendance limited to 175 fans each for both teams.  All tickets will be purchased electronically through the “GoFan” link.  The front doors of the Huffman will be the only entry location. All fans will be required to wear a mask at all times. Limited concessions.

COLLEGES
Because the City of Jackson, Miss., is still being impacted by last week’s inclement weather and low temperatures, the Southern Athletic Association has moved the 2021 Men and Women’s SAA Cross Country Championships to Berry. The date of the 2021 Men and Women’s SAA Cross Country Championships remains Saturday, Feb. 27, beginning at 11 a.m. The Vikings hosted in 2019 and in 2013. bOn the men’s side, only two programs have won SAA titles. Centre won SAA Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014 while Rhodes swept the team titles the last five seasons.On the women’s side, the Colonels have won six of the eight titles. Rhodes won the title in 2015 while the Vikings earned the 2016 SAA Championship.

Leprechaun-a-thon 5K and Health Walk returns March 20 with a new name, COVID-safe ‘waves’ of runners and walkers, and lots of green. The race is set for Saturday, March 20 with the 5K waves beginning at 5 p.m. Walk waves will start at approximately 5:50 p.m. Participants are encouraged to wear as much green as possible as well as decorate with lots of glowing goodies. Music will be playing and BODYARMOR drinks will be available on the Town Green after the race. Expanded details from Parks and Recreation.
