Bucket O Shrimp received mostly positive reviews on the restaurant’s Facebook page. Hometown photos from midday Friday.
Bucket of Shrimp appears closed on Dean Avenue after 18 months. One of the more talked-about residents in 2019, Bucket o’ Shrimp  at 1517 Dean Ave. looks closed. Much of the signage is gone and the inside looks jumbled. The phone line rings for nearly 10 times and then goes to a fax machine. We left notes via the Facebook pages of the Rome location as well as the original in Gainesville (which remains in operation).
The restaurant opened big with lobsters, crab legs, shrimp and other seafood as well as wings and tacos. It soon added hours and then a covered front porch for onsite dining. It was hit by the pandemic last spring and later reopened for Friday and Saturday nights with drive-through service.
A Realtor’s key box was on one of the side doors as of Friday.

A photo from Big Dan’s from earlier this year; foundation work is well under way. The location also housed a Christmas tree stand in December. Hometown photo.

Big Dan’s Express Car Wash has started construction on 1.6 acres at 12 Shorter Ave., the former site of Mathis Builders Hardware and Supply (now on John Davenport).
Look for an extensive, 125-foot tunnel, 28 free vacuums, and state-of-the-art technology that will accommodate cars and pickup trucks. Big Dan’s is new to the industry and is one of the fastest growing express car wash chains in the country. It will have 15 locations open by early 2022 in Georgia, South Carolina, Texas and Florida.
In Rome, Big Dan’s will hire 15 to 20 people with an opening set for this fall. For more: bigdanscarwash.com.
