Pick O’ Deli Riverside getting close; job fair set for Wednesday.

Pick O’ Deli’s Riverside location due by March? The above video, from mid January, gives you a look at what’s happening inside the former Fuddruckers at Riverside Parkway and the Bypass near State Mutual Stadium. From Facebook, a fan asked about the opening and got a reply, “Hopefully around March 1.”

Another indicator that things are getting close:

“We will be holding job fair at Pick O’ Deli Riverside located across from the Braves Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. … We are hiring for all positions. Previous food experience helpful but not required. Potential for advancement. Please bring photo if and Social Security card.”

The second location  was a surprise as James P. Turner had announced plans to build a new restaurant behind the original location at 1403 Dean Ave. (see rendering below). A $1 million permit had been pulled as well. By chance, our story on the Dean Avenue switch was posted a year ago Friday (background).

But late last year came work of the change of plans: Keep Dean Avenue as is and take over the Fuddruckers spot with some new twists including drive-through service. An auction was held in January to sell much of the memorabilia that had hung in Fuddruckers since it opened in 2003. It closed suddenly last March before the pandemic hit.

What was planned at Dean Avenue — and hung on the wall near the cash register for several months. Hometown photo.
