Town Green never looked so good. Please drive by this weekend if you haven’t had a chance.

Busy year in downtown Rome just getting started: On Monday’s Hometown Headlines, Natalie Simms outlined some of the specialty shops and businesses flourishing in downtown Rome. Broad Street remains a hot address and we’re told a few more changes are brewing by springtime.

That’s in addition to whatever comes out of interest in the city-owned property on West Third Street. The options under consideration: A mix of residential with retail and a rooftop bar or a “mixed-use space that could utilize the levee” as mentioned in the minutes from the city’s Jan. 27 Redevelopment Committee meeting. We’ve seen several options on this site already.

Answering one of the most-asked questions we get these days….

A shortage of chicken wings? Not around here: Georgia Public Broadcasting’s Grant Blankenship reports there is a pandemic-driven shortage in some parts of the state. He adds: “Many of the workers in chicken processing plants have been sick with COVID. That, along with pandemic-driven demand from housebound wing lovers (many of whom have learned how to order delivery) have laid waste to wing stockpiles. Prices are also at a record high, even for this time of year, when the Super Bowl pushes them up anyway.”

  • One option: The Rome Braves are offering two packages to go if you order by 4 this afternoon: 25 wings and fries for $28 or 50 wings and fries for $52. Details.
  • Mellow Mushroom in Rome has two pizza and wings packages promoted on Facebook.

Prices from 1981? This Saturday at Schroeder’s New Deli on Broad Street: We wrote earlier about celebrating 40 years and they’re planning an all-day event to mark the occasion:

Help wanted: Polk Chamber seeks an executive director.  Blair Elrod announced her resignation after three years with the chamber, The search is under way for a new director. The preamble for the ‘help wanted’ ad:

“The Executive Director is charged with providing positive leadership for the organization and community and a high level of customer service to the membership and visitors. He/she reflects the Chamber’s communications and outreach to the community and must constantly strive to develop a better public understanding of the purpose and functions of the Chamber. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.” Expanded details.
