From Floyd County Police:
A fourth grader is no longer missing after being found hiding in the cupboard of a vacant classroom. The child is safe and has been released to family.
The boy, age 9, was reported missing by police when staff at Pepperell Elementary School could not locate him. Staff at the school contacted 911 for assistance, at which point patrol officers and the district’s school resource officer responded. Other officers and investigators arrived a short while later for a full-scale search effort.
The child was last seen on video surveillance outside a classroom near an exterior door, sparking concern that the child may have potentially wandered outside with another group of children. Police conducted an immediate search of the community, including K9 tracking and a request for helicopter from Georgia State Patrol.
A more intensive search of the school found him in a vacant classroom hiding inside a cupboard.
