FRIDAY REPORT

The latest from the Georgia State Patrol:

On Jan. 21, at approximately 4 p.m., Gracie Reed was driving a 2005 Honda Accord, attempting to turn left from U.S. 27 southbound onto Youngs Farm Road eastbound.  As Ms. Reed turned left, she entered the path of a 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was traveling in the left lane of U.S. 27 northbound.  The right side of Ms. Reed’s vehicle then made contact with the front of the tractor-trailer.

After impact, both vehicles left the east side of the road where the Honda overturned onto its roof.  The Honda then became trapped underneath the tractor-trailer.  Both occupants of the Honda, Gracie Reed, age 16, and Ava Reed, age 12, were deceased at the scene.  The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was transported to Redmond Regional Medical Center.

The girls were students at Cedartown High and Cedartown Middle schools.  This note this morning from the Polk County School district:
