Mr. Jeff Ellis, age 67, manager of the City of Rockmart, GA, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the First Baptist Church of Rockmart. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ellis will lie instate at the Rockmart City Government Complex in the City Council Chambers from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm. on Wednesday.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening between the hours of 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Mr. Roy David Blalock, age 88, of Lindale, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Blalock was born in Paulding County, Georgia on January 21, 1932, son of the late Howard Blalock and the late Omer Holden Blalock.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Grace Pollard Blalock, by his second wife, Betty Sue Baker Blalock, and by a brother, Hugh Blalock.  Prior to retirement, Mr. Blalock worked for Lindale Manufacturing.  He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.

Mr. Blalock loved country music and in the 1950’s he would get off work and travel to Nashville to visit the Ryman to hear the old country artist perform and then go next door to Tootsie’s and hang out with them afterward.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and drove in dirt track races in the day.  Mr. Blalock was a beekeeper, a hobby he has passed down to his children and grandchildren.  He loved traveling in his motorhome and going fishing.  People loved listening to the tall tales and stories he would tell about the past.  He was a person of unconditional love that was felt by everyone that knew him.

Survivors include his children, Tammy Hill (Steve), David Blalock (April), and Beth Parker (Jody); a stepson, Greg Rogers; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Tommy Blalock (Brenda) and Jerry Blalock (Noreen); 4 sisters, Hazel Sullins, Helen Lloyd (Jimmy), Bessie Sawyer, and Janelle Keener; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021, at 12 noon in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Ricky Pollard officiating.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 11am noon until 11:45am.  Social distancing measures will be followed, and masks are requested.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday at 11:30am and include: Active: Matthew Blalock, Noah Brewington, Sam Parker, Mark Loveless, Ray Benefield, Eric Watson, and Blake Hicks.  Honorary: Jaxon Loveless and Zaden Benefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Affinity Hospice, 138 Mountain Brook Drive, Canton, GA 30115.

The service will be streamed live on the Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, Facebook page.


Stephen Lane Owens, age 70, of Summerville, passed away Thursday January 14, 2021 in a local hospital.

Steve was born May 20, 1950, in Floyd County, a son of the late James Geston Owens, and Nancy Nell Abrams Owens. He was of the Baptist Faith, and a retired electrician. Steve was a avid Alabama football fan, and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.

Survivors include son, J.J. (Melissa Henderson) Owens, daughters, Kandis (Vincent) Myrick, Loren Owens, brother, Ronny (Tommie) Owens, grandchildren, Daly Owens, Bowden Owens, Kennedy Myrick, Vanna Myrick, nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held at 5 P.M. Tuesday January 19, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, with Rev. Mickey Graves officiating. The family will receive friend’s hour prior to the service.


Joyce Ayer Yarbrough, age 75, of Silver Creek, passed away Friday January 15, 2021 at her residence.

Joyce was born July 31, 1945, in Floyd County, a daughter of the late Taylor Ayer, and Irene Willis Ayer. She was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, and was retired from Mono Bakery. Joyce was a loving Mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Wheeler, and Gordon Yarbrough, brother Jim Ayer, sister, Elaine Wilson.

Survivors include, daughter, Tracy (James) Wheeler Garmon, step-daughters, Cindy Nelson, Bambi Reed, brother, David Ayer, sisters, Sherry (Mike) Boyton, grandchildren, Kayla Caldwell, Katie Green, Kevin Gramon, 12 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 P.M. Monday January 18, 2021 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:30 P.M. until the funeral home hour. Interment will follow in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers include the following gentlemen, Chris Caldwell, Chris Green, Scott Wilson, Robert Sizemore, Tristan Caldwell, and Dylan Caldwell.


We respectfully announce the passing of Mr Shedrick Lamont Wilson, age 32 of Rome, Georgia on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 following a short illness.

Homegoing service is incomplete, but will be announced later by Wright Memorial Mortuary, Inc.
