Flu activity in Georgia remains low with no new deaths, according to latest report from the state Department of Public Health for week of Jan. 3-9. There was only one hospitalization for a total of 19 so far this season.
There remain just two flu deaths this season. One victim was in the 50-to-64 age group and the second was listed as 65 and over. Their communities were not identified.
A year ago, there had been 22 flu deaths at this time as well as 779 hospitalizations and 43 flu outbreaks.
Healthcare officials continue to urge area residents six months and old to get flu shots, especially as the peak of the season is still a few weeks away. It takes two weeks for the vaccination to be fully activated.
