COVID on campus: Worst week yet for quarantines. Records at Floyd (907) and Rome (634). Updates from Cartersville, Gordon County schools. All off Monday for King holiday.

Most area schools are closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the timing is critical. Every school system is reporting a surge in cases and both Floyd County and Rome schools reported record quarantines as the week ended. Rome Schools plan to return to in-person teaching on Tuesday. Floyd Schools are off Tuesday for a student holiday (parent-teacher conferences). Chattooga schools are online again this week through Jan. 22.
 

Berry College students complete return to campus on Monday. All students returning are required to show a negative PCR test for COVID that was taken within three to five days of arrival. Berry’s first day of classes is Tuesday.

  • So far in January: 10 student cases, 5 staff. Quarantined: 44.
  • Fall semester: 204 students, 34 staff, 10 WinShape employees, 1 Aramark employee. Total: 249.

  • Rome City Schools post record student quarantines for the pandemic on Jan. 14: 582 students, 52 staff in quarantine. 3 new positive tests.
  • Floyd County SchoolsA pandemic record 907 quarantines, up 138 from Thursday. No updates on positive cases
  • Cartersville City Schools, Jan. 11-15:  23 students, 7 staff tested positive all week. 246 students were quarantined and 4 staffers were quarantined because of exposure at school.  CCS reports
  • Bartow County: All county schools in ‘green’ phase heading into week three of the semester. Bartow matrix
  • Polk School District. All students asked to wear masks for another week; all employees required to wear face coverings.
  • Gordon County Schools. 9 school staff members tested positive last week; 17 students. Updates 
  • Chattooga Schools: Virtual learning through Jan. 22 because of surge in cases.

  • Jan. 9-11: 330 students and 43 staff in quarantine; 373 total. 11 more positive tests. West End hit hardest; five Rome High students, 1 staffer test positive.
